WANGANUI.

F. Tilley’s Team at Trentham —Zela Being Tried Over Hurdles—Rayner’s Trio of Juveniles Now in Work—Undecided Turned Out — Zola on Easy List—Local Candidates Engaged at Foxton.

WANGANUI, Monday

F. Tilley has taken Client, Acre, ’Cello and Amythas to Trentham, and should pick up a race or two at the meeting with any luck, as they are all in fine form. Client has been doing good work, and is expected to make a bold bid for victory in the Cup, provided he is handled well. Acre has been shaping very well lately, and there are not wanting those who look to him to win one of the big sprint events at Trentham. Marton sports pin their faith to Nobleman in the Wellington Cup. J. Coyle, who trains the son of Sil’ Laddo, has recently taken up his

quarters at Marton, and the change has apparently done Nobleman a lot of good. He is reported to have run a great trial over a mile and a-quar-ter, and as a result he is being strongly supported for the big race on Wednesday. At the same time, if Client is at his best on the day and gets a good run he is just as likely to win as Nobleman.

W. Rayner intends to try Zela over the hurdles, and she has been entered in the jumping event at the Taranaki meeting. The daughter of Patronus has been shaping fairly well in her schooling essays, though so far she has not been tried with anything else. She jumps all right, though she dwells a little, but is likely to improve in that respect with a little more experience.

Rayner has just put his three two-year-olds—Golden Bubbles, Farce and Rose Queen —into work again after a spell, necessitated by colds, from which the trio recently suffered. They look very well, though a trifle on the big side as a result of the let up, and it should not be long before they will be back to racing form. Golden Bubbles and Farce have been nominated for the Juvenile Handicap at the Taranaki meeting, but whether or not they will fulfil their engagements depends on the progress they make in the meantime. The chances are that they will not be seen out until the Wanganui meeting comes round. Pennon was very sore before racing at Feilding in the Stakes, in

which she was just beaten for second place. Since then she has been in rather a bad way, and has done little or nothing. She is engaged in the weight-for-age events at the Egmont meeting, but it is hardly likely she will be a starter, as Rayner will probably not be able to put the necessary work into her. However, he hopes to get her to the post for the Flying at the Wanganui meeting. If the English-bred filly was only sound she would prove one of the most brilliant sprinters in the land, and there is every reason to believe she would stay on all right. J. Peachey is taking Bold Boy to Foxton. The Sylvanite gelding is looking very well, and has been responsible for some good work. He is an improving sort, and should win a race or two before long for his owner.

Peachey has turned Undecided out, the gelding having failed to do any good in his efforts over the small sticks.

Zola has been given an easy time •of it since the Feilding meeting, and will not be raced again until the Wanganui meeting comes round. He has been well taken care of by the handicappers since he won over the small sticks at Hawera, but has run consistently well in each start. It is against him that he does not thrive when away from home, while he is always out to win, which is more than can be said of some of those he has to meet.

’Cello is engaged in the Trial Plate at Trentham. The son of Achilles can gallop fast when in the humour,

but he has so far been disappointing, though he has run two or three good races.

Amythas figures in the Wellington Stakes, and as the two-year-old son of Demosthenes has been galloping well he is likely to run well in whatever he starts. Moutoa Camp is engaged in the Hrudles and also the Welter at Foxton. Th© Campfire gelding is owned and trained by F. Tilley, and he has shown that he possesses a fair amount of pace on the flat, while he should jump all right. H. Rayner has taken Starengo and Carmel Arch to Foxton. They have both been going along well lately, and the former will probably soon get amongst the winners again.
