AUCKLAND RACING CLUB.

SUMMER MEETING. BOXING DAY EVENTS. The summer meeting of the Auckland Racing Club is getting closer. We are reminded of its near approach by the arrival of horses from outside districts and provinces and by the other visible signs that present themselves at this season of the year, of which the appearance of the weights for the minor events on the opening day is one of the indications. They appear below in the order in which they are to be run, as also the lists of those remaining in the chief handicap races and the classic and other events which require further attention on Friday, before 5 p.m., at the hands of owners. First on the list is the special weight race the SHORTLAND PLATE of 300sovs, one mile.—Windorah, Master Regel, Mandrake, Ruatara, Meltonio, Demoiselle, Rangi Aroha, Sanacre, Te Miro, Black Lace, Athens 11., . Piraeus, Benzine, Whitehall, Melee, Mahzoltov, Master Iney, Royal Prince, Robur, Happy Captain, Principal Lady, Lady Energy, Escaped, Persian Prince, Glucian, Mary Bruce, Revenue, Gold Kip, Ditto, Arihia, Afterglow, Karo, Tigritiya, War March, Hineamaru, New Zealand. It will be noticed that some useful horses appear in the list, which is sure to have a good field paid up for on Friday. Some of them are Guineas and Derby candidates.

GREAT NORTHERN FOAL STAKES of lOOOsovs, six furlongs.—Macduff, Rebuff, Princess Charming, Bindle, Canowindra, Prince Charleroi, Lady Una, Warplane, Ermine, Negligee, Emerald Hill, Passin’ Through, Crenides, Bitholia. Parorangi, Surveyor, Lady Ball. The majority of the probable starters are at Ellerslie, where Prince Charleroi has been showing the most brilliant gallops, but some first-class youngsters have yet to arrive and southern winners may possibly be more than a match for the local gelding. ROBINSON HANDICAP of 300sovs. Seven furlongs.

This race can be dealt with next week when we have the reduced list before us and that promises to be still a heavy one. AUCKLAND CUP of 275050v5. Two miles.

It remains to be seen whether there will be any defections. Sir Ralph and Mascot are suggested as likely to drop out. Kilmoon, Red Ribbon, Bonnie Maid and Rose Pink are most fancied and most supported. . GRAFTON HURDLES of 350sovs. Two miles.

Northland and Dancastor are sure to drop out, being amiss. Waimai appears to be as well as any of the probable starters at the weights. RAILWAY HANDICAP of lOOOsovs. Six furlongs.

Gazique and Silver Link are good fancies of those already with us, but Downham, Form Up, Hymestra, Nanna, Sheila and Waiuta have each been galloping well. Onslaught is most fancied by southern followers of form, and the Waikato is expected to play a strong hand in what seems a very open race. The Takapuna horses have not yet put in an appearance at Ellerslie.

NURSERY HANDICAP of 350SOVS. Five furlongs.

This race should furnish a splendid field, but the fact that the Foal Stakes is run on the same day must operate to the disadvantage of some. They cannot very well start in both, and there is some uncertainty as to which a number will be seen out in.

CHRISTMAS HANDICAP of 350sovs. One mile. ■

Horses claiming two engagements during the day appear in this race, and it may be well to await the reduced list before trying to gauge owners’ intentions, but Form Up and Cyrisian, in the same stable, have nothing to complain of, and the selected of the Alison stable (Rockfield or Lord Kenilworth) should show to advantage.
