MUSIC NOTES.
(By
“G” String.)
-Miss Margaret Wilson, the American President’s only unmarried daughter, is an indefatigable raiser of war funds. She has an excellent voice, and she is using it just now to swell the coffers of the Red Cross. All the money she receives from her concerts goes to the American Red Cross, which, even before the war, received substantial sums from her. In addition to this, she hands over all the wealth which accumulates in the form of her royalties on talking machine records. Each record of her voice bears these words: “This record of my voice, if sold by Company, shall yield to the American Red Cross the sum of 25 cents (one shilling), covering my royalty. The past month, says an English musical paper published in August, has brought into prominence a number of musical veterans. The doyen of them all appears to be the centenarian, who has kept in touch with a church choir since his chorister days, 90 years ago. Another “old ’un” is Mr. C. C. Caird, who has died at Abergarenny, aged 87, after officiating as organist for 70 years. Several cases have been mentioned where an organist has remained at the same post for 50 years.
