MANAWATU HUNT.
MEET AT “HIGHDEN.” “Highden,” at Awahuri, the Palmerston North home of Mr. J. Goring Johnston, vice-president of the Manawatu Racing Club, was en fete on Wednesday last, the occasion being the meet of the Manawatu Hunt, a very pleasant afternoon being spent in a hare drive. There was a large gathering of hunting enthusiasts, while the weather was perfect. The jumping throughout was capital, very few mistakes being made, and as most of the fences were barb wire the performances of the horses in clearing the obstacles were very meritorious. There were only three falls during the afternoon, which, however, were not of a serious character. The spectators, of which there was a large and representative assemblage, were rewarded by witnessing some very fine horsemanship, the ladies putting in some very fine work in the saddle. At the close of the afternoon’s sport the followers and spectators were the guests of Mr. and Mrs.' Johnston at afternoon tea. Amongst those following were: Mr. E. Short (master), on Scout; Mr. J. Sexton (huntsman), on Belle; Mr. J. Shaw (honorary whip), on Silver Hair; Mrs. D. B. McEwen, on Trilby; Miss, Larsen, on Black Bess; Messrs.
