Williams’ b g Vagabond, by Martian—Gipsy Girl it is unlikely that anything better than the nest of the Avonuaie bitneas tot will compete .n the Great Northern Guineas —that is, of visiting candidates. Bingham, who can oe regarded as one of the best —if not really the best —of the Ellersi.e-trained ones, was not in the Avondale Guineas. There should be a fair field, but running in the Avondale Guineas may g.ve the best indication of wnat is likely to succeed. The following were still in the two-year-old classic event, the WELCOME STAKES of lOOOsovs. For two-year-olds; colts 8.5, geldings 8.2, fillies 8.0. Five furlongs. R. Vuglar’s b g Corinth, by Demosthenes—Lady Delaval J. H. Edwards’ b g Shining Light, by Marble Arch-—Monella It seems unlikely that there will be a large field. Informal and Hineamaru will likely fight their Avondale battle over again, and o 7 the other probable starters The Broke, Wish Wynne and perhaps Miss Ell.ce w 11 do the best, and one or other might possibly effect a surprise, though Hineamaru should be ai± the better for the experience she gained at Avondale. Informal, unfortunately, knocks one of his joints hard at times, and we were as surprised after seeing him bleeding as a result to see h m pa d up for in the Avondale Nursery Hand cap as we were at seeing the weights on quite so light a scale all round, starting with Informal, who won the Wellesley Stakes and carried 8.13 into second place at Trentham next day. Everything points to a very good day at Ellerslie on Saturday.
