ELLERSLIE ITEMS.

THURSDAY. Another fine morning greeted racing .folk on Thursday. They had choice of the sand, tan, inner grass and two-year-old tracks. A lot of half mile sprinting was indulged in on the inner grass as under: British Arch and Last Call, 50 2-ssec, in order; Pink Tie and Woody Glen in 50 4-ssec; Meltchikoff 52 2-ssec; Flower Gold and Danseuse 51sec; Prince Menschikoff and Meltino 51 l-ssec; Templemore and Kawaha ran 50 4-ssec; Riga and Sylvasco 51 4-ssec; Scottish Queen 51 4-ssec; Monatour 50 sec; Kitty Bellairs 49sec; Demoiselle and two others 52 2-ssec. Sir Ralph ran the last six of seven furlongs in Imin 20sec. Bonanza, Hineamaru and Mary Bruce the last three of four furlongs in 38 3-ssec. After breakfast Spanner, Miss Ellice and Hessian three furlongs on the two-year-old rink in 36 3-ssec —the best of the morning. Arran had Independence easily settled over a fast five furlongs in lmin 4 3-ssec, the mare taking Im.n 6 l-ssec. Kauri King went twice round the tan at a sound pace. Marble Star refused to try on the same track. Mullingar and another ran once round, sprinting home, not fully extended. Michael O’Leary alone put in an attractive round over the schooling hurdles. Fabriquette registered lmin 20sec for six furlongs. Lady Glen and Signo ran seven furlongs in lmin 33 4-ssec, as above. Pendoon alone ran half a mile in 52 3-ssec. The Peggy Pride gelding in the same stable chipped 2-ssec off this time. Demotic and Pierrot put three-quart-ers of a mile past in lmin 20 2-ssec. Homeric and Carmen Sylva slipped over three furlongs in 38sec. Shining Light, Aircraft and Kilbeggan sprinted three furlongs in 40 l-ssec. Marconi, with D. O’Shea (one of our most promising light weights) in the saddle, beat Dancastor round the grass in fair time. Plenipotent easily held Kinkora in a round over the big battens. On Saturday morning all the work was done ; on the sand, the track being very fast on account of the rain and fast times were recorded. Hopfield, not all out, ran a moderate seven furlongs, taking lmin 40sec to finish. Sir Ralph, favoured by the weight, more than held his own against Meltchikoff over six furlongs in lmin 18 2-ssec. Analogue appears to have benefited by the trip to Waverley and registered lmin 30 3-ssec for seven furlongs. His stable mate Step left six furlongs behind in lmin 16 4-ssec. Meltino beat a track companion over five furlongs in lmin 7sec from a standing start. British Arch, assisted by Last Call over the last three furlongs, ran six furlongs in lmin 21 2-ssec. The trio look in robust health and trotted in the centre. Michael O’Leary sprinted half a mile in 52 l-ssec. Blue Cross joined in over the last three furlongs. Woody Glen showed speed over six furlongs, leaving the distance behind in lmin 17 4-ssec. Sylvasco, Independence, Riga, Pendoon, Fisher, Backfire, The Channel and Gold Fran finished up the work at the before breakfast session. After breakfast the track was not quite so fast, being cut up. Sylvan Knight ran round in 2min 7 sec Brown Loch ran clean away from Keystone over six furlongs in lmin 22sec. Astor sprinted four furlongs, the last three in 38sec. White Sox -beat a companion round the circuit in 2min 5 l-ssec. Ma Copper beat Caber Feagh over seven furlongs in lmin 35 2-ssec. Waihoihoi put in a solid circuit alone. Scottish Knight beat a stable mate over a mile in lmin 51 2-ssec, without full pressure. Lightning had Mentmore in a tangle over a short sprinting mission. Patetonga made a runaway victory over an intended pacemaker in a six furlong spin in lmin 18sec. Peneton was more nimble over the timber than Theresa, flying four of the big battens. Informal showed improvement in a flutter up the straight, the racing at Wellington having sharpened him up. Bingham got round the sand in the good time of lmin 58sec. Mullingar, with Lady Paula in the f "st part and Loch Ennel to bring him home, ran a mile in lmin 46sec and the round in 2min. Sleepy Jack had Sportful beaten over s’x furlongs in lmin 20 3-ssec. Demotic, Carmen Sylva and another ran the same course in lmin 21sec. Stilts, who is the more ready, was not pushed to settle Ring Lupin over five furlongs in lmin 9 4-ssec. Pre-eminent ran six furlongs of once rcu”fl in lmin 23 2-ssec. Silver Lupin alone circled the track in 2min 4 3-ssec. Hineamaru (Poseidon — Forfar GaD. Taiamai (The Nut—Lady Molly) and Miss Ellice (Bronzino —Elegance) finished as above over half a mile on the sand in 51 3-ssec. Te Onga and Kiriwinning were both ridden by their trainer, H. Barr, and moved resolutely.

Fabriquette, Delesian, Canzonet, Hautere, Kawaha, .Garry Owen, Ulster and Novation were all on the easy list. Coleraine surprised the touts by defeating Sea Prince over half a mile in 50 2-ssec. The last-named took 53 1-5 Soultane cut out five furlongs in lmin 6 3-ssec. Marconi, as usual, held Dancastor safe over nine furlongs in 2min 1 3-ssec, lightly weighted. Kitty Bellairs left three-quarters of a mile behind in lmin 19sec. Kauri King, with a fair load of weight in the saddle, pleased the onlookers by running the seven furlongs of a circuit in the good time, of Imm 34sec. Jocular, Captain Lock, and Joss worked usefully. Mountain Gold (Multifid — Necktie) and Kildonan did steady work. The name suggested for the full brother to Tararu Jack (Spalpeen— Soult mare) is Hibernia. Frank Loomb is expected by the next boat with his Avondale candidates. He will take the team straight out there, and at the conclusion of the suburban fixture has booked accommodation with P. Conway at Greenlane. W. Sharp has shown good results with Juanna since taking charge of the filly. A win (and a good dividend), a second and a third being to her credit. The Robert the Bruce — Miss Dix youngster in P. George were expected to arrive with teams and to go straight out to Avondale from Onehunga. D. Cotton will have the mount on Bingham in the Spring Handicap at the Avondale meeting on Saturday, and will probably ride Lady Jack in the Flying Stakes. The same rider will steer The Broke in the Avondale Stakes. TUESDAY. Hopfield ran seven furlongs, being picked up by Fisher over the last five, and registered lmin 29sec. All the recorded work was on the outer grass. Pink Tie gave Demoiselle a break and a beating over half a mile in approximately 50sec. Colonel Soult was not asked to do his best to vanquish the three-year-old Demotic over six furlongs in lmin 17sec. Billy Wiggs alone ran four furlongs in 52s'ec. Last Call and British Arch left six furlongs behind in lmin 18sec, being together. . Bellacity (W. Ryan), giving weight away, defeated Lady Bruce over five furlongs in lmin ssec. Informal beat Sylvan Knight over half a mile in 50sec. Hewitt had the mount on the two-year-old. Meltchikoff beat Bowler over seven furlongs in lmin 34 l-ssec. Loch Ennel ran six furlongs in lmin ISsec. Mullingar, picked up by Scottish Knight, ran once round, the last five furlongs taking lmin 7sec Analogue ran the circuit handily m lmin 52snc. Will he reproduce it on the race day? Meltino, Prince Meltchikoff and Danseuse ran home as above at the end of five furlongs in lmin 7 3-ssec. Pendoon had a head the best of Woody Glen at the finish of five furlongs in lmin 6sec. Lightning beat Fabriquette at the end of five furlongs, the last four taking 51sec. Backfire and Mentmore finished upsides over six furlongs in lmin 19sec. Blue Cross took lmin 25 l-ssec to cover the same ground. White Sox and Lady Paula sprinted four furlongs each separately in 51 1-5 sec and 51sec respectively. Sir Ralph held Independence quite safe, registering lmin 54 3-ssec for the circuit. The Hamilton trainer, S. Hodge, was riding work on the tan. He has Bezmar, Piupiu and C’rispeness under his care. Kau- i King, easing up, beat a companion, putting the circuit past in lmin 5 5 sec Michael O’Leary jumped four hurdles. Astor slipped over half a mile in 50sec. This sprinter has been kept up to the collar since coming north. Waihoihoi jumped eight of the big schooling hurdles, but was tiring and came down at the last, and was remounted and got over without further mishap. Caber Feagh and Theresa followed and gave a good exhibition of fencing over four hurdles. Caber Feagh finished in front. Before breakfast the Gisborne horses Chortle, Chuckle and Vagabond were tried out separately The two former ran six furlongs in lmin 16sec and lmin 17sec respectively. Vagabond fluttered over four furlongs in 52sec. Glendalough, Pearl d’Mont and Pukeatua were set for a six furlongs gallop. The last-named ran off into the sand. The trio finished as above. Some barrier practice took place from the mile post on the course The Broke beat a couple of companions, over three furlongs in 36 2-ssec. Canzonet, Comedy Prince, Egmont Park and the General Latour filly ran home in this order, registering 36 3-5 sec for the three furlongs. Kawaha. Hineamaru, Miss Ellice and another followed over the same course in 36 4-ssec, finishing as above. Mary Bruce and Taiamai fluttered over the same distance, no time being taken. Shining Light, Windorah, Aircraft and another finished in this order, no time being taken. 'Aralune beat three other roughies at the end of five furlongs, heading the second division by 4sec.

King of the Valley beat Torotoro and another over four furlongs in 53 l-ssec. Dancastor led Te Onga and Kinkora at the end of a round of the big schoolers. Bingham equalled Chortle’s time of lmin 16sec over six furlongs. Empire circled the track in the fair time of lmin 56 l-ssec, with, the light weight D. O’Shea in the saddle. Plenipotent was too smart for War Time over a round of the battens. Homeric and Penniless sprinted down the back smartly Kitty Bellairs and All Talk sprinted the best half mile of the morning in 48 3-ssec, the latter taking Isec longer. Sportful led Carbiness over two pony battens and then flew a round of the hurdles alone. Stilts ran four of six furlongs in 51 2-ssec. Ring Lupin was on the tan. Patetonga also put in a couple of rounds on the same track. The Taranaki hunter Grey Star started over the sod wall double fences, stone wall and went over the country and finished up over the water and stone wall without putting a hoof wrong. Hautere, Te Onga, Dunrobin, Ulster and Marconi lined up for the big fences, going over the sod wall double and stone wall. Ulster pulled off, the others going over the hill. The first fence on the top stopped Marconi, the others taking the fences in the centre. The wall coming into the course kept Marconi held up. The finish was a good one, Ulster joining in over the sod wall, with Dunrobin in front. Hautere jumped the stone wall faultily and went back to retrieve the mistake, but gave Ericksen a nasty spill. Marconi, after keeping his party on tenterhooks, returned safely.
