TROTTING.

AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB. SPRING MEETING TAKES PLACE ON SATURDAY. The Auckland Trotting Club will hold their spring meeting at Alexandra Park on Saturday next, and the greatest interest is being centred in the gather.ng, which will have the distinction of being the first of the new season’s totalisator fixtures to be held in Auckland, following a spell of four months without racing of any kind. Racegoers are, therefore, especially keen to hear the totalisator bells ringing merrily again and enjoy an afternoon’s trotting, which promises to be of a very high standard, judging by the all round excellence of the fields engaged in the eight events to be carded. The mesence of a number of leading trotting horses from the south will lend additional interest to the gathering, and it only needs the weather to keep fine to ensure a successful afternoon’s sport. Steel Bell, Strategy and Harold Junior figure among the field for the Spring Handicap (two miles), in which a sterling contest is anticipated. Fifteen contestants have been paid up for in the other two miles event, the Onehunga Handicap, and indications point to a keen race being witnessed. The October Handicap (one mile and a-quarter) has attracted a good field, and as quality is strongly represented a particularly fast race is assured. The mle events have both drawn gratifying acceptances, and the winners appear well concealed, while the Maiden Trot (one mile and a-half) and Mountain Trot (one mile and a-half) have the material engaged in them to provide splendid races. Altogether there is every prospect of Saturday’s gathering proving especially attractive and enjoyable, and the attendance at Alexandra Park should establish a fresh record for a spring trotting fixture in Auckland.
