HAWKE’S BAY.

Lord Laddo Changes Hands—J. Oldfield’s Trio for Gisborne—Nicomar Making Good Recovery From Injury— Eligible and Multiply to be Shortly Recommissioned. . NAPIER, Monday. Mr. Keith White, of Porangahau, has purchased Lord Laddo. This owner also has Gold Painting in work, and the mare is expected to be one of the contestants at Nap er Park next week. Teka is suffering from a cold and the trip to Gisborne is off so far as he is concerned. On Friday night J. Oldfield took three of Teka’s stable mates to Gisborne, where they will do baune at the winter meeting of the Gisborne Racing Club. The trio are Grand Idea, Otara and Bodenham. The last-named is engaged in some of the lepping events in the ’chasing department, but I should imagine that he is not quite au fait yet at that class of business to anticipate victory for him at the meeting. Parisian Diamond’s success in the York Handicap at Ellerslie last Wednesday was foreshadowed here, and several local punters got away with a wad as a result of his capture. |g Owners T. Jeffares, W. E. Barrett, trainers J. M. Cameron, C. McGregor, jockeys P. J. Mulvihill, J. Dwyer, G. P. Carruthers and gentleman rider Mr. E. J. Ellingham are amongst those resident here who were drawn in the last ballot. The two-year-old son of Demosthenes and Gold Bond has had the name of Demagogue bestowed upon him, and the cognomen of Thebes has been chosen for the two-year-old daughter of Demosthenes and Stresa. Both of the youngsters are under the control of K. Quinlivan at Hastings. Nicomar, who some time back had to be placed on the retired list through meeting with an injury to one of his forefeet, is making such good recovery from the effects of the mishap that it is anticipated that he will be able to take his place once more on the test out. Maraetotara, who is now under the care of W. Woods, at Hastings, is going along the right way, and her next appearance on the running path should be signalled by good results. Merrie Lad was given a school over the big fences at Napier Park this morning. The black gelding, who is in great fig, gave a pleasing display. . Messrs. P. Hunter and R. L. Williams have been elected Hawke’s Bay district representatives to the Racing Conference. Diavolo should be one of the hard to conquer division at Gisborne this week, for the livening up that he got at Ellerslie is certain to have a beneficial effect upon him. Eligible and Multiply give every indication that it will not be long ere they will be stepped out for battle aga'n. The pair are spelling at their owner’s (Mr. T. E. Whelch) property at Wanstead, and the rustication is agreeing with them.
