Bay candidate Pourparler being in greater request with backers than the Gisborne representative, Multicipal, while Hushabye had many admirers. Mysteriarch led the field in the early stages, while Pourparler, , who was slow to move, raced along n rhe rear of the quartette. Multicipal ran to the front entering the straight, while the favourite could be discerned making up ground at a great pace. A good race between the pair saw the son of Multifid win by a neck, while Mysteriarch was three lengths away, third. The concluding event, the Makirikiri Hack Handicap attracted five starters, in which Multaine, who scored at the recent Woodville meeting, was elected favourite, Bairnsdale and Kiltless being next in demand with totalisator patrons. The favourite got away smartly, and k-oked all over a winner once the field entered the straight, but Bairnsdale, ’finishing stronger than his opponent, scored a half-head victory. Carillon was four lengths away, third. The results were: — MAIDEN PLATE. Weight 8.0. Five furlongs. I—G. D. Beatson’s b f Sabana, 3vrs, by Rokeby—Stepka (A. Reed) . . 1 -’—A. W.
