WANGANUI

J. Peachey's Jumpers—Vladian Being Treated to Spell—M. Gardner’s Charges Score a Double at Hawera. WANGANUI, Monday. J. Peachey is now training First Consul. The Conqueror gelding has not done any jumping lately, but he is coming along nicely, and will be schooled shortly. Peachey is also keeping Foul Lupin going, and if this gelding keeps sound he is likely to pick up a race or two

before very long, as lie is a good jumper and can muster up a lot of pace.

W. Raynei’ took Haupai to Hawera, but the daughter of Sweet Simon shaped poorly, and was brought home instead of being taken on to New Plymouth. Though she managed to win at Foxton on the flat, she is not likely to do much good unless put to hurdi.ng. She is bred and built on jumping lines, and she ought to do well at the game. C. Gordon had a turn of luck with Record ar Hawera, the Renown gelding winning the hurdles the first day in good style. Gordon is keeping the Ghoorka filly which he has in hand going steadily, and she is a very pro-mising-looking youngster, winch ought to pay her way well when properly fit.

H. Rayner has allowed atarengo to take things easy since his dual win at Foxton, and the gelding should be all the better for it when the Wanganui meeting comes round. Rayner has got hold of a nice-looking three-year-old bay colt by Marble Arch— Cresson, and all going well this colt should do him good service.

Vlad .an has been blistered and turned out for a spell. He is not likely to be seen in action again until the Wanganui winter meeting comes round. Walter has just taken in hand a couple of well-bred youngsters, one owned by Mr. G. Currie and the other by Mr. G. T. Moore, and he has also got Zela (the half-sister by Patrouus to Zoia) in work.

M. Gardner, the Waverley trainer, scored a couple of wins at Hawera with Camp Guard and Analogue. The latter horse has been gradually improving for some time past, and he ran a sterling race in the Cup on Wednesday, but Egypt proved too good, though he had to register record time to beat Mr. J. E. Palmer’s horse. The son of Seaton Delaval was only opposed by Master Lupin in the Atkinson Memorial on the second day, and he landed the stake, though Master Lupin made a good race of it. Mr. Palmer well deserved his success, and it is to be hoped that he will not be long in scoring another win or two. Camp Guard ran a good race in the hurdles the first day, but had to be content with second place, Record winning. The latter did not start the second day, and Camp Guard got home comfortably. The son of Campfire is a promising hurdler, and it would come as no surprise to find him land one of the big hurdle races later on. A. Hall took Master Lupin and Combustion to Hawera. Combustion finished third in the hurdle race each day, while Master Lupin was beaten in the Atkinson Memorial Stakes by the only other starter, Analogue. The race should improve Master Lupin, and, if he does not score at the Taranaki meeting, he should be a hard one to beat in the Cup here. Lady Middleton has been doing good work during the last few days, and from all appearances the racing she had on the West Coast improved her. She is to fulfil her engagement in the Mimi Welter at the Taranaki meeting. Tyson, who also raced on the West Coast at the New Year meetings, is also going up to New Plymouth, where he is engaged in the Stewards’ Handicap with 7.8. He has been galloping well on the tracks, and should make things very interesting over five furlongs.

J. O’Shea, with five wins to his credit, headed the list of winning horsemen at the Egrnont Racing Club’s summer meeting. C. Emerson came next with a brace of victor es, while B. Deeley, B. H. Moiris, E. Copestake, A. Ward, G. Clarke, C. Price, W. Bell, Mr. Shield and Mr. J. Crook each saluted the judge on one occasion.

Sea Pink added another success to his by no means formidable list of victories, when he won the Hobart Cup last week with 9.7 in the saddle. Mr. E. J. Watt’s representative has now won three important events within a month, and the son of Seaton Delaval has turned out a profitable geld.ng. Sea Pink has been racing tor seven years for eight wins, and has run in 90 events. In 30 of these he was placed, and he ran second in 13. Despite his many disappointing showings he has thoroughly demonstrated that he is a remarkably sound stayer. Sea Pink claims an engagement in the Australian Cup. and after his Hobart Cup victory he will probably come into favour for that event, though it is generally contendeil that the class is somewhat above him.
