A female brown trout, 271 b in weight, 3ft. 7in. in length and 24in. m girth, was caught in the upper reaches of the Wanganui River, near Tauma runui, recently with a fly. This is how it was done (according to an exchange)—The angler spotted a very likely place for a rise, and with his first cast the fish was tempted and fell and then the fun began. The line spun out with lightning rapidity, and as the end was reached the angler was unable to stop the dash of his magnificent catch and bowled over ;n the middle of the river. Undaunted he followed his pilot, and two rapids were passed in quick succession, and the angler eventually had the satisfaction of seeing his catch turn on its back, but almost immed ately the dropper fly spanned off and with a twist of its body the trout got hooked by the tail and glided to the bottom of the river like a dead we ght. The assistant angler got to work with his gaff, and after a desperate struggle he succeeded in grassing the fish.
