LADIES’ GOLF.

Dunedin. The members of the Otago Ladies’ Club played the monthly bogey match on October 19th. There was a. very fair entry. Those playing were Mrs. Gilray, Mrs. Acheson, the Misses Glendining, Black, Todd, Barker, Fynmore, Sargood, Mclntosh, and Mrs. Bakewell. The best score was brought in by Miss Barker, all square, who also reduced her handicap (medal) from 36. to 2.7. The next best were those of Mrs. Gilray, Mrs. Acheson and Miss Sargood, all of whom were 2 down, Miss Sargood also reducing her medal handicap from 36 to 28. The last rounds of the Consolation have been played during the past month, Mrs. G'ilray beating Miss Black 5 up and 4, Miss Fynmore beating Mrs. Acheson 1 up at the 19th. In the 'final Miss Fynmore, handicapped 1 down on her opponent, Mrs. Gilray, won by 2 up and 1. These players had a very close game indeed, neither player being more than 1 up on her opponent all the way until the 17th green was reached, when Miss Fynmore gained the advantage with a 3 (bogey), her opponent taking 4. These consolation matches have been enjoyed by all taking part (20), and it has been generally agreed that the match play was good for the players, as many have decidedly improved their game while playing in them. An All-day Tournament (open) was held on October 31st. The day was a great success so far as entrance money went, but the weather was disappointing. The morning was dull with a few light rain showers, but in the afternoon heavy rain set in just after the players had got away. A medal round was held in the morning, and those competing were: Mesdames Allan, Gilray, Sargood, Acheson, McCarthy, Arthur (St. Clair), and the Misses Glendining (2), H. Sargood, K. Black, L. (Holmes, V. Fynmore, I. Todd, Mclntosh, and the Mises Sweeney and Fletcher from St. Clair. Miss Sweeney brought in the best score (nett), 117 —36 —81. The other scores were: Miss N. Glendining, 99—17—82; Mrs. Acheson, 104 —21 — S 3; Miss kynmore, 104 —19 —85; Miss K. Black, 105 —20 —85; Miss H. Sargood, 121—34 —8 7; Mrs. Sargood, 102 —13—89.

In the afternoon 26 competed, and Miss A. Mill brought in the best card, 1 up on bogey 7 for a 12-hole round, Miss Mclntosh being next with 1 down. A continuous putting competition was in progress an the afternoon, and was won by Miss F. Rattray, 37 for 18 holes, the next best being Mrs. Allan, Mrs. Gilray and Miss Fynmore, who each took 38. These scores were good, as none of the holes were very short and the green was very heavy on account of the rain, which fell nearly all the afternoon.

All entrance moneys and donations from members who were unable to pmy were devoted to the Prisoners of War Fund, and £lO was collected in this way. The Misses A. Mill and F. Rattray generously forfeited their trophies, and the money will be added to the £lO, so that nearly £l2 will be sent away to provide parcels for the poor prisoners of war, who need all the parcels that can be sent. The committee wish to thank all those members, and members of the St. Clair Club, who so willingly contributed to the fund and helped to make the day a success. * * ■ * * Christchurch. At the annual meeting of the Lyttelton Golf Club, the report stated that the past year had been a fairly successful one, although the war to some extent had interfered with inter-club matches. The club was indebted to Misses Rouse, Bradley (2) and Anderson, Mesdames Ayers, Curtis, Knights, Brown, Simpson, Stokes and. Hunter for trophies. Mrs. Ayers bad won the Ladies’ Golf Union bronze medal, while Red Cross medals had been won by Miss Preston and .Mesdames Ayers and Mazey. Miss Rouse and Mr. J. Stokes had won two mixed foursome matches. ,
