LADIES’ GOLF.

Auckland. The last Red Cross match of the season was played by members of the Waitemata Ladies’ Golf Club on Wednesday, September 20, and resulted in a win for Mrs. Bayly, with a score of 103—28—75. Other good cards returned were those of Mrs. Neville, 102 —25—77; Miss Harvey, 107 —31 —76; Miss Bray, 102 —24 —78; Mrs. Perry, 113 —33 —80; and Mrs. Prime, 105 —19 —86.

Cambridge. The following is the result of the play in the first round of the Cambridge Golf Club’s ladies’ championship;—Mrs. Stewart beat Miss Lewis, Mrs. Nixon beat Mrs. Croxford, Mrs. W. Hunter beat Mrs. Nicoll, Miss Cox beat Miss E. Reynolds, Miss Brooks beat Miss A. Hally, Miss Swayne beat Mrs. Walshe, Miss K. Hally beat Miss Pickering.

Wellington. At the closing of the Johnsonville winter golf season, a presentation was made by Mr. Graves on behalf of the club to Mrs. Wallis and Mrs. Morgan, who had prepared and dispensed afternoon tea every Saturday. Mr. Graves expressed the appreciation of the club, and presented Mrs. Wallis with three cut-glass table centres, and Mrs. Morgan with a willow-pattern china bowl. The sum of £2 will be forwarded to the Red Cross Society as a result of the afternoon’s play. Christchurch. The lady members of the Richmond Hill Golf Clubs played their monthly medal match with the following result: —Mrs. A. McClatchie, 102 —17— 85; Miss McDowell, 130 —33—97; Miss Mackenzie-Gibson, 128 —30; —98; Mrs. A. V. White-Parsons, 128 —28 —100. The annual Rawnsley Cleek Competition was decided on the Richmond Hill links, under ideal weather conditions. The entries were unusually large, and the keenest interest was evinced by members, players, and spectators in the progress of the competition. The winners appeared in Mr. F. G. Simpson and Miss McDowell, 3 up. Their nearest attendants in the long list of competitors were J. M. B. Campbell and Miss Gibson, 1 up; A. L. Ledger and Miss Pender, 4 down; Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Hamilton, 5 down; A. Pullan and Miss Selby, 5 down; Mr. and Mrs. Harley, 6 down; E. G. Rawnsley and Mrs. Richmond, 7 down; J. E. Stevens and Miss Mayne, 8 down; Marrie and Miss Hamilton, 8 down; Huntly Elliot and Miss Elliot, 9 down.

Wanganui. The last Red Cross Medal match of the season was played by the members of the Wanganui Ladies’ Golf Club on Wednesday last. The scores were slightly better than usual, the best being those of Mrs. Grace and Mrs. Glasgow, who tied for first place with 4 down, the next in order being Miss Bates and Miss M. Treadwell, both 5 down, Mrs. Izard 6 down. In the semi-finals of the Club Championship, Miss K. Burr beat Mrs. Neame, 6 and 5; Miss Darley beat Mrs. Maurice Earle, 4 and 2. Waiwetu. Mixed foursomes were played last week for trophies presented by the president, Mr. R. C. Kirk. The winners, Miss C. Stevens and Mr. A. J. Hobbs, generously gave the value of the trophies to the N.Z.L.G’.U. Red Cross Fund. Manawatu. The L.G.U. medal matches played on Tuesday of last week were won by Mrs. Freeth (100—12—88) in the A grade, and by Miss M. Morrah (111 —29 —82) in the B grade. The Neill Fraser family, which suffered the loss last year of the wellknown golfer Miss Madge Neill Fraser, have recently lost another member. Lieut. P. Neill Fraser was killed at the beginning of the present British advance in France. Mrs. Gavin, the English golfer and aeronaut, has been playing in some of the American women’s tournaments in America this season, and has succeeded in winning the Eastern Women’s Golf Championship. She was also runner-up in the American Nation Women’s Championship. Miss Vera Ramsay, another English golfer, won the championship of the Women’s Golf Association of Boston.
