WANGANUI.

Abalone’s Fatal Mishap at Wanganui —F. Tilley’s Big Team at Fordell — Rinaldo’s Withdrawal From New Zealand Cup. WANGANUI, Monday. T. Long had no luck with Interlude at the Wanganui meeting, but-the racing there should bring her on, and it would not be surprising to find her winning shortly. Long has just taken

up a three-year-old youngster by Advance out of a sister to Orloff.

F. Tilley had seven horses engaged at Wanganui, but only managed to score in one —the last event, which was won appropriately enough ty Gang Awa. Leonta was going so well when he fell in the hurdles the first day that his rider believes he would have won easily but for toppling over. As he was a bit shaken up after it was decided not to race Leonta the second day, and he will be given a spell. He has always been an unlucky horse.

Abalone, which had to be destroyed owing to breaking a leg through tumbling over Dood, who fell on the first day in the Durie Hack, was a nne big gelding by Sylvia Park, but he had not shown much promise, though he might have picked up a Farmers’ Plate and later on made a decent jumper. Tilley has a big team in work at Fordell now, fifteen of which are owned by Mr. W. Duncan, who appears to have got hold of some good colts in the youngsters he purchased in Australia. Of these the most forward at present is Acre, the Linacre colt, and he will probably be seen in action at Trentham if there is a meeting there in October.

Rinaldo is doing slow work. There is nothing wrong with him, but he was withdrawn from the New Zealand Cup because there was no chance of getting him ready in time.

Tilley was not represented at Otaki as that meeting follows too closely on the Wanganui gathering, but he will have a small team at Waverley, including ’Cello, Gang Awa, Perrier and perhaps another one or two.

J. Morris, the Bulls trainer, has got hold of a three-year-old gelding by Maniapoto—Gold Cord, which should win some good races later on for his owner, Mr. Jas. Bull.
