FORMATION OF DRUM AND PIPE EAND FOR AWAPUNI CAMP.

Our readers will no doubt learn with gratification that a movement is afoot to provide the Awapuni Ambulance Camp with a drum and pipe land. That this deserved object war-

rants the co-operation and support of all in a position to help in the matter is beyond question, for the very fact of the Awapuni Ambulance Camp being the only military camp in New Zealand which has not yet got a band is a sure sign that the men stationed there are not receiving due recognition. The Palmerston North Patriotic Society have very generously offered to present two sets of pipes to the camp, and the balance of the instruments will be purchased from the Camp Recreation Fund, so that the next step is to seure suitable bandsmen. We desire through our columns to urge upon those who are prepared to offer their services as bandsmen for the purpose mentioned tc immediately communicate with .Lieutenant Nimmo, Camp Quartermaster, Awapuni Camp, Palmerston North. All applicants for pests as bandsmen must enclose a reference, preferably from a bandmaster, or some recognised authority, and should clearly state instrument the applicant is accustomed to. It must be clearly understood that applications will only be entertained from men who are ineligible for service abroad. The men chosen will have their passages paid to Palmerston North, where, as bandsmen, they would have the satis-

faction of rendering to their country useiul service at home. It is hard to over-estimate the value of a first-class band to a camp. On route marches it is extremely beneficial in keeping the men in step, besides adding greatly to the pleasure of the march, and at all times serves to brighten the lot of the men who have responded to their country’s call.
