WELLINGTON RACING CLUB.

THE WEIGHTS

Mr. Coyle lost no time in getting out the weights for the winter meeting of this club, and though we have not heard owners discuss the allotments we can take it for granted that there will be a very good response. If anything, we should say that some of the adjustments have been started on too low a scale to give most of the bottom weights a chance, though there are some of these that may develop form as jumpers. The acceptances are due on Friday night, but there will be no chance of dealing with the first day’s events thereafter. In the Victoria Hurdles, Multicipal, Lord Nelson and Austin read as well as any in the list, and perhaps Arlington may show to advantage. We cannot trust - Soultikoff, though he may do best away from home. He has a suspicious leg now. Bisogne and four of the first half dozen top weights read well enough in the Stewards’, always provided the going is anyway decent. Heeltap has sometimes raced well in soft going. In the Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase, Hopye, Queen’s Post and the consistent Nita may take some beating. New York and Queen’s Post may cause Braeburn most trouble in the Wellington Steeplechase, in which El Gallo is not likely to see the post, and Immensity, who went somewhat amiss at Otaki, may not be dressed in her best. There are quite a number of horses that will be fancied. Orleans, Harbour Light, Kooya and Lady Louisa will have friends in the Parliamentary Handicap. Marconi, Pursefiller and Master Regel will take no end of beating in the Winter Hurdles. If Crown Pearl had done some more racing over the obstacles he would have pleased us, and the same remarks applies to several others that have had no experience in public for some time. The four top weights in the Te Aro Handicap and perhaps Bairnsdale may be hard to dispose of in the Te Aro Handicap.
