ELLERSLIE ITEMS.

SATURDAY. On Saturday morning very little work took place before breakfast, Loloma and Fisher doing the only gallop worth recording. The pair ran the full ten furlongs in 2min 15 l-ssec on the outei 1 grass, the gallop being all in favour of the mare. After the breakfast interval S. Waddell sent his charges along at medium pace. The veteran has the team looking in nice condition. Signo, with the assistance of Gold Lac, put in a solid once round, the former going much easier than her compani*. n. The grass circuit was traversed in lmin 55sec. Try Fluke had no trouble to dispose of Parsimony in a half mile flutter in 50 2-ssec. The Soult gelding registered lmin 7 3-ssec for the last five furlongs. Dancastor toddled home in front of the moderate Sea De’il in a half mile flutter in 52 2-ssec. The stable trio Captain Jack, Lady Sabretache and Waimai accompanied by Sam Pan started at the stone fence leading into the course, taking the sod wall double fences, stone wall and old water jump. Waimai hit the first of the double fences hard, but stood up. The Captain pulled off, and the others put in another round, all fencing well.

E. Crearar, who had charge of the old gelding Julian, by Merriwee —Maxima, has had to send the old horse home to his owner. Crearar will be : iding Nildah in the Maiden Hurdle Race on Saturday. Last week the following horses arrived at headquarters in good order and condition: Royal Chef, Harbour Light, Sam Pan, Tatterley, Ladogeur and Marimba in charge of C. Jackson, W. Stone, K. Quinlivan and W. Griffiths, their respective trainers. S. Waddell arrived with the Hon. J. D. Ormond’s team on Friday. All the above have been doing useful toil since arriving at Ellerslie. Plenipotent, who has been resting for some months, will shortly be taken up and put into work again to be prepared for next season’s racing. Mr. W. Townsend was at Ellerslie on Friday to see his chestnut gelding Heat Wave, which is in charge of W. G. Irwin. TUESDAY. The morning was fine, and a lot of useful tasks were got through, all the fast work being accomplished on the outer grass tiack. Before breakfast Loloma, picked up by a stable companion at the halfmile post, ran six furlongs in lmin 21 3-ssec.

Bowler and Autumn Rose scampered over tour furlongs in 51sec. Tact and a companion galloped six furlongs. The time was only moderate. Castalia alone covered the same distance in lmin 22sec. Soultikoff had Tragedy King beat from the jump off, covering the circuit in lmin 55 4-ssec. Royal Chef, after breakfast, skipped over four furlongs in 51 sec. Tatterley alone, with neck sweaters and hood, galloped a furlong further in lmin 7 2-ssec. Marimba and Multiplication sprinted four furlongs in 52 3-ssec, finishing in the order named. Silver Lupin and Parsimony galloped six furlongs on the sand in lmin 22 3-ssec. Aurore and Fisher covered the same ground in lmin 23 l-ssec, Try Fluke taking lmin 21 l-ssec for the same task. Signo and Multiply swung round the track in lmin 57 3-ssec. Hyginas, Kitty Bellairs and another sprinted five furlongs in lmin 6sec. Lady Winsome, Sir Rosa and Harlestone covered the same as above in the same time. El Gallo and Glissando set out on a sprinting mission, cutting out five furlongs in " min 6sec, last year’s Great Northern double winner having the best of the gallop. Sea De’il, Dewy Morn and another sprinted, while Miss Avalanche alone did a similar task, the ground suiting this mare.

Ladogeur, with Gold Lac to assist, fluttered over six fu. longs in lmin 21 2-ssec.

Inspector had the best of Lady Lobelia, registering lmin 58 3-ssec for the last eight of nine furlongs. Dancastor and Hemisphere got to the end of six furlongs in lmin 24 l-ssec. Gold Necklet and another sprinted four furlongs in 51 4-ssec. Cardrona also sprinted. Ulster, Porphyry and Sam Pan ran home in this order from the seven furlong post in lmin 37sec. Pateonga went two furlongs on the sand in lmin 6 2-ssec. Lady Penury and Pendoon covered the last five of seven furlongs in lmin 7sec. Pursefiller, Harbour Light and Gladful tackled seven of the big schooling battens. The first-named finished full of running, but had the best of her companions in the matter of weight. Harbour Light did not please the onlookers so well, as he lost some ground at the first few jumps. Te Onga and Westerly went over the sod wall double, stone wall and the old water jump. The former ran into the fence, while Westerly flew it. This is the second time Te Onga has stopped at the same fence. Hushman and Bisogne fluttered over four furlongs in 52sec.

Others that were indulged in useful work were: C’rispeen, Worcester, Akuhata, The Celt, San Sebastian, Flying Start, Bluestone, Mossman, Genevieve, Goldmount, Te Papapa, Delemar, Idra, The Channel and Lochlantis. Nildah, Marconi and Sir Stroud went over five of the battens, the firstnamed coming down at the fourth obstacle. Marconi finished in front. Maryland and Gwalior flew three of the big schooling hurdles. Idealism and Sam Pan went over the sod wall double and stone wall, and after cantering round repeated the performance. Idealism fell at the second fence of the double the first time. Captain Lock, Ambassador and Kaiangareka went over five of the battens, the Captain finishing in front. Tangihaere alone went over the sod wall double fences and stone wall, jumping much better than usual. Royal Loop, Guiding Way and Hopye circled the sand rink, Guiding Way leading the other pair home, the round taking 2min Msec, the last mile being accomplished in lmin 54sec. .. Waimai, Captain Jack and Flingot jumped the steeplechase fences in the centre of the course, running home as above. The Waikato horse is fining down. Flingot moved a bit short at first, but went freely towards the finish.
