LADIES’ GOLF.

Red Cross Fund. Previously acknowledged, £6 17s. Od.; Otago, £1 18s. 6d.; Miramar, £2 10s. Od.; total, £l2 ss. 6d. The Manawatu Ladies’ Golf Club held the first medal competitions on Tuesday last. In the A grade Mrs. Mcßae won (110 —23 —87), in the B grade Miss E. Porter won (124 —40 — 84), and in the juniors the winner was Miss U. Kelling, with a score of 110 net. - * * * Middlemore Ladies’ Club. The May medal match was played at Middlemore on Tuesday in delightful weather. The course placed well. The senior medal was won by Miss Gwen Gorrie with a score of 94 —7 —87, and Miss Muriel Payton (106 —12 —94) was second. The junior medal was won by Miss E. F. Gorrie (106 —24 —82), and Miss Mavis Clark (113 —29 —84) was second, and Miss E. Cullen (113 —22 — 91) third. The C grade match, over 12 holes, was won by Miss Margery Clark (82 —27 —55). New Plymouth Golf Club. At the annual meeting of the New Plymouth Golf Club the following officers were elected: —Captain, Mrs. Johns; hon. secretary, Miss Brewster; committee. Mesdames Glenn, Paton, R. Quilliam, Walker and Miss Blundell. It was decided to play fewer matches this season, all entrance monies to go to patriotic funds. Last year this club contributed nearly £2O towards Red Cross and other patriotic funds. This season the club has inaugurated a new match. Players are to bring some gift such as sox, handkerchiefs or any suitable gift, to send to our soldiers, and it is hoped that a good sized parcel will be sent away from the club each month. On Tuesday, May 2, the season was opened with a Red Cross medal match, 14 players entering. Following are the best scores: Mrs. Johns, 103—20—83; Mrs. B. Johnston, 127 —40 —87; Miss Putt, 118 —30 —88; Mrs. McQuade, 117 —27 —90. • * * * Miss Stephenson, vice-president of the New Zealand Ladies’ Golf Union for New Plymouth, is leaving for Australia en route for England. Miss Stephenson won the New Zealand Ladies’ Golf championship in 1905, and is a player of sterling merit. She will be much missed in the New Plymouth Golf Club.

Waitemata Ladies’ Club. A flag match was played by the Waitemata Ladies’ Golf Club on Wednesday, May 3, for a prize presented by Mrs. Neville, and resulted in a win for Miss Newell, who carried the flag to the eighteenth green. A match will be played on Wednesday next for a prize presented by Mrs. Pilkington, entrance fees to go in aid of the ambulance. Play will start at 1.30 p.m.
