AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB.

SUMMER MEETING. The Auckland Trotting Club’s summer meeting is going to be one of the best ever held in the North Island if the present visible signs give an indication of success. It will not only be inter-provincial in character, but inter-State, and if the purses the club is hanging up for record breakers attract competition, as we understand is probable, and the horses that attempt the tasks succeed, so much the better, and we are sure the committee and members of the club will be more than pleased if they have done more than any other club in the Dominion in this way. Our Thorpe will not be a competitor. The arrival of the Australian trotting horses, included amongst which s The Maid, who has won the Richmond Thousand amongst other events, has greatly added to the interest in the programme, and there will be good horses from different parts of both the North and South Islands, some of them known to us but ethers that will be making their first appearances before Auckland audiences during the three days. Australian trotting enthusiasts have time and aga.n extended their patronage to New Zealand, and Auckland has had a big share of it, and the sport has bene fitted accordingly, and largely, and it is a good sign when they come and go and return again to renew their attacks. It is an indication that they are satisfied that they get a square deal. A good slice of the money has invariably been lifted by the invaders from other parts of the Dominion ami from Australia, and they have taken advantage of the open field and Auckland’s weakness on frequent occasions, though they have brought good material as an almost general rule. The Auckland Trotting Club Cup has drawn a fine entry, and the hand s cap, which was declared on Wednesday morning of last week, should result in a good acceptance, and the other races are also likely to fill very well on Friday next from what we have been able to glean from those most interested. With the acceptances before us there will be better premises to go on next week.
