HAWKE’S BAY.

Hawke’s Bay Sununc; Meeting—Blackheart and Fair Rosamond Again in Active Commission —Decal Candidates’ Form at Feilding—Blackall and Tatterley Hitt.ng ont Well. (From Our Own Correspondent ) NAPIER, Monday. The nom nations received by the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club on Er.day night tor their summer gathering, to be held on January 1 and 3, are <f an excellent nature, both as regards class and numbers, and there is every prospect of a successful meeting at the Holiday fixture. Sir Alba has quite recovered from the ailment (corn trouble) that necessitated him be.ng put on the easy list some time back, and the chestnut gelding is now str.ding along really well in his efforts on the tracks at Hastings. He will probably make his reappearance at the Christmas meeting of the Manawatu Racing Club. Blackheart and Fair Rosamond, who were eased up a few months ago, have been put into active commission again. Bjorneborg (Finland — War Scare) made his debut at Feilding last week, and his essays were of the meritorious order. In his first attempt he finished a good th.rd to Interlude and Tanga in the Aorangi Trial Plate, while on the following afternoon he ran a good second to Bimeter in the Oroua Stakes, beating the other runners with more comfort than he was silenced by Bimeter. Bjorneborg is closely related to Bobrikoff, for the pair were both sired by the same stallion, while WaxScare, who produced h.m. is a half sistex- by Martian to Bobrikoff. It was certainly a good performance for Bjorneborg to accomplish in the Stakes, for it was the first day upon which he was eligible to compete in a six furlong race. His stable companion Egypt made good in the Tenth Feild•ng Stakes on the prev.ous day, but he had the good luck element in his favour, for there is no doubt that had not T.no Atua put up 14% lb ovexweight she would have proved a very difficult proposition to overthrow, and in giving Egypt 9%1b and Nystad 6%1b and then to get close up third demonstrates that she is an extra good filly. Besides the extra poundage, Tino Atua was further handicapped by break.ng away upon a couple of occasions., and after this she got very fretful at the post, and consequently beat herself out to an extent before she was despatched on hex- mission. Mr. Lowry must have felt really well pleased at the result, of the running in the Stakes, for he bred and owns the winner, while Tina Atua was also bred by him (she wa? sold as a yearling for 230 guineas to Mr. W. J. Douglas, in whose interests she ran at Feilding), and in addit on Nystad was sired by his stallion F.nla'nd. „ The judging at the late Poverty Bay Turf Culb’s meeting must have been faulty fox- at the monthly meeting of the Hawke’s Bay District Committee, held last Friday, a report from the stipendiary steward in attendance at the meeting was read in connection with the matter, and it was resolved that the report be forwarded to the Poverty Bay Turf Club asking for an explanation. , Sarah Grand, the two-year-old half sistex’ by All Black to Theodore, S r Moseley, Evadne and Diavolo, has been entered for the two-year-old events at the approaching meeting of the Hawke’s. Bay Jockey Club. She is ownexl by her breeder, Mr. P. P. Neagle, who has the happy knack of placing his team suitably, and t may be taken for granted that if Sarah Grand is seen out in action at Hastings next month that her chances will wear a favourable aspect. Kooya is apparently com'iig back to form for at Fe Iding on Wednesday she hit out well in the Manchester Handicap as long as her condition lasted. A few more stringing up gallops, and the m’any cup winner will have to be taken into consideration when she next makes her appearance. Indigo is getting through useful work on the try-out at Hastings, and his next assault upon the stake money w 11 be in the Manawatu Cup, provided all gees on satisfactorily with h'm in Lie meantime. Blackall and Tatterley, who will be shortly sent on to Ellerslie to carry out their engagements at the summer fixture of the Auckland Racing Club, are replying satisfactorily to the questions put to them on the tram ng track at Hastings, and with track form as a criterion to adjudicate upon their chances at Ellerslie bear a rosy hue. 1 i (RACING NEWS CONTINUED ON PAGE 22.)
