GISBORNE RACING CLUB.
The Gisborne Racing Club’s programme for February 3rd and sth is before us. The Gisborne Cup is worth 375sovs. in specie and a cup valued at 25sovs., donated by Mr. F. Lysnar, the vice-president, who has followed the lead of Sir James Carroll, the president, who last year donated a cup of similar value. The Gisborne Racing Club Handicap, on the second day, is worth 25050v5., and the Flying Handicap 170sovs. The Gisborne Stakes, of 150sovs., for two and three-year-olds, with special weights, has taken the place of the Electric Handicap, which appeared on previous programmes, but the distance has been increased to six furlongs. The Scurry races are still a feature of the club's bill-of-fare, and there are no races on the programme worth less than lOOsovs. The date of nominations is not until January 14th, but the owners of horses will have every opportunity of considering the liberal prize list and can make their arrangements accordingly. The idea of establishing a race for two and three-year-olds was suggested several years ago, and the Gisborne Stakes should prove an incentive to local breeders.
