CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB. GRAND NATIONAL MEETING FIRST DAY. NGATOA WINS STEEPLECHASE. The C.J.C. Grand National meeting' was opened on Tuesday in perfect weather in the presence of a large crowd. Totalisator business was brisk, the sum of £43,386 being handled, as against £38,517 10s, for the opening day of last year. CONCLUDING DAY. MORNING WINS LINCOLN STEEPLECHASE. The meeting- was brought to a conclusion on Saturday in fine weather, and in the presence of a splendid attendance. The totalisator investments for the day were £49,349, as against £38,672 10s. for the corresponding day last year, and for the meeting the total was £134,586, as against £111,017 last year. The race resolved itself into a contest between Morning and Tim Doolan, and going to the kennels double for the second time the favourite looked like overhauling the Hawke’s Bay representative. The latter, however, had a lot in hand, and went on again to win by four lengths, about 100 yards separating second and third, with Ngatoa fourth.
