NEW ZEALAND GRAND NATIONAL MEETING.

This meeting opens on Tuesday next, and as, with two or three exceptions, all the horses that were accepted for are standing their ground in the three leading events, it can be taken for granted that the meeting will be up to the standard of the best of its predecessors. The following horses were still in the races referred to below up to Tuesday: GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLECHASE. Three miles and a-hali.

The scratching of Tragedy King at the eleventh hour was found necessary, and thus Auckland is robbed of a good representative in the Grand National Hurdle Race. Racing at several meetings recently has shown that quite a number of horses are in good form and may be benefited thereby. All three races appear to be very open. We expect Leonta, Awahou and Royal Arms to prove very hard to dispose of in the G.N. Hurdles, and have no reason to doubt the ab’Tity of Morning in the Grand National Steeplechase, and perhaps the well seasoned Tim Doolan, Fagot, Jackman and Glenmore may prove reliable horses to follow. The Winter Cup should be a great betting race. There are many probabilities. Glenroy, Bluestone and Loloma will each have Auckland friends, but all the pro-

vinces are well represented, and no doubt investors will be guided by gallops done at headquarters during this week.

The weights for the minor races appear on page 15.
