TOWN HALL
THE DANDIES-
Liberal applause and encores arc the order of the evening with the Dandies in possession of the Town Hall. Too soon their season will be coming to a close, so patrons are well advised to make the most of this merry band while they are still with us. Mr. Claude Dampier again supplied the humorous note till everyone was helpless with laughter. One of his best was “Reckless Runert,” a character sketch handled inimitably and guaranteed to drive all blues away. Besides encores and other interludes, Mr. Dampier also made merry m duets with Miss Irene Vere, who is ever an adaptable colleague. Miss Ida Newton expressed her powers of coquetry in a humorous monologue, “Thoughts,” and had to come again. Miss Mona Thomas sang “A Summer Night.” “Hoodoo.” and “Teddy Bear,” and was enthusiastically applauded. Mr. Harry Borradale has proved that an artist does receive honour even in his own country, and for his light work and recitals received unbounded applause. His dramatic handling of “Bannerman. Rode the Grey” evoked an effective recital of “Gungha Dhin” and a humorous teHing of “A Sad Mistake.” Mr. Cyril Connolly’s violin solos were thoroughly appreciated, and imparted variety to the vocal portion of the programme, which was further supplemented by Mr. Oliver Peacock and Mr. John Welby in numbers and encores. The concerted numbers in the current programme include a Dutch sketch, and a Tommy Atkins finale. It is good to see Mr. Leonard Griffiths once again presiding at the piano after a slight indisposition. On Friday, June 18, the Dandies are giving an evening in aid of the Hospital Ship. The total proceeds, without deduction, go to this fund. A chance to enjoy oneself and do good at the same time.
