MAGDALA WINS THE CUP. The Ashburton County Racing Club’s autumn meeting was commenced on Thursday in fine weather. The track was in first-class order. There were large fields, and close finishes were the erder of the day. The totalisator investments for the day reached £11,714. as against £10,105 10s. on the corresponding day of last year. The results were:— FIRST HURDLE HANDICAP, one mile and three-quarters—Cast Iron 1, Commotion 2, Curilla 3. Scratched: Margo. Cast Iron beat Commotion by a neck, Curilla being four lengths away. Time, 3min 15 4-ssec. LONGBEACH HACK HANDICAP, six furlongs.—Marvelite 1, Bandy 2, Sir Hamilton 3. Scratched; Melfcrd. The winner led from the start, and though Bandy made a great effort in the straight, was still half a length behind when the post was reached. Time, Imin 14 3-ssec. ASHBURTON CUP HANDICAP, one mile and a-quarter.—Magdala 1, Honesty 2, Bonny Rigg 3. Scratched: Foam Flake and Snapdragon. Honesty led till the entrance to the straight, when Magdala put in a strong run and drew level a few yards from home and won

by a neck. Two lengths separated the second and third. Time, 2min 7%sec. LAGMHOR PLATE, five furlongs.— Thaddeus 1, Melford 2, Skirl 3. Scratched Bridegroom, Traitress, Hardshot, Byton, Quickfly and Glenhill. Won by a length. Time, Imin 2sec. FAIRFIELD WELTER HANDICAP, seven lurlongs.—Fabrikoff 1, Encore 2, Medallist 3. Scratched: Ladrone, Athenic and Bandy. The favourite took charge at the entrance to the straight and had to extend himself to beat Encore by a neck. Medallist was three lengths behind. Time, Imin 27 2-ssec. MELROSE TROT HANDICAP, one mile.—Premotion 1, Sir Elmo 2, Edenchild 3. Scratched: General Link, Allen Doone, Forest Child. Won all the way by two lengths, with 12 lengths dividing the other two. Time. 2min 20sec. GROVE FARM HANDICAP, six furlongs.—Daytime 1, Medley 2, Cortes 3. Scratched: Fabiakoff, Fender, Free. Daytime led from the start, winning by a head from Medley, who outdistanced cortes by three lengths. Timo, Imin 13sec. CONCLUDING DAY. SCOTCH MELODY WINS HANDICAP. The meeting was concluded on Friday in ideal weather. The going was excellent, and there was a good attendance. Tne totalisator Investments were £10,719 10s., as against £6802 10s. on the corresponding day last year, while the aggregate tor the meeting rose Horn £16.908 (in May, 1914) to £22,433. Commotion came through at the entrance to the straight, and won by a bare neck, Curilla being three lengths behind. Time, 2min 45sec. MORETON HACK HANDICAP of 100 sovs, six furlongs.—Pride o’ Clutha 1, Meltord 2, St. Ewe 3. Scratched: Bandy. The tinisn was exactly similar to the liurdies. Time, Imin 13 2-ssec. AUTUMN HANDICAP of 200sovs, one mile. —Scotch Melody 1, Fender 2, Snapdiagon 3. .Scratched; Wild Pilgrim. .a good race. .Half-way down the straight Scotch Melody and Fender drew ahead, and the former won by a necx, three lengths dividing second and th.rd. Time, Imin 39 4-ssec. JUVENILE HANDICAP of 150sovs, six furlongs.—Down 1, Fiery Cross 2, Bcllshire 3. Scratched: Hardshot. The winner was always in a handy position, and, drawing away well in the last 50 yards, got home a length ahead, double that distance separating the other two placed horses. 'lime, Imin 14sec.

WINCHMORE WELTER HANDICAP of lOOsovs, seven furlongs.—Countess Tolstoi 1. Trireme 2, Sir Hamilton 3. All started. After the first furlong Countess Tolstoi took charge, and was never headed, and finished two lengths in fro.it of Trireme, who (beat the third horse by a neck. Time, Imin 26 4-ssec.

SELMA TROT HANDICAP of 90sovs, one mile and three-eighths.—Lothario 1, Soda 2, Lady Lyons 3. All started. Lothario led all the -way. and won by a length. Time, 3min 16sec.

WAKANUI HANDICAP of 140sovs, six lurlongs.—Medley and Peg (dead heat) 1, MarveLte 3. Scratched: Marsa A great finish. Time, Imin 13 2-ssec.
