GISBORNE RACING CLUB.
This long-established Poverty Bay racing club continues to make steady progress, and from the programme of the steeplechase meeting which appears in this issue, and which is to be held on the Ist and 3rd of July, it will be seen that very substantial increases have been made in the prize money as compared with previous years” The sum now distributed during the two days is by far the largest ever offered for a winter meeting. The Maiden Hack Race, with which the meeting starts, is now worth lOOsovs. The Park Hurdles Handicap has had lOOsovs. tacked on, and is now worth 25050v5., and the Gisborne Steeplechase is worth 400sovs., as compared with SOOsovs. last year. The Flying Handicap has been raised to 150sovs., the Hack Flat Race to 12550v5., the Winter Oats Handicap to 17550v5., and the Tramway Hack Steeplechase to 150sovs., the increases representing 295sovs. for the day, and on the second day by 105sovs., or 400sovs. for the two days. The Gisborne Hurdle Race and Te Hapara Steeplechase are each worth 200sovs. Nominations for each race cost lsov„ and it costs 2 per cent, in nominations and acceptances to start for each event. The inducements for owners to support the meetings in Gisborne were never so good, and we have no doubt that the winter meeting will claim a lot of attention. The nominations close on June 11th and the acceptances on Thursday, June 24th.
