GISBORNE.

Death of Multiplied—Mistie Being Hacked About—King of Athol’s Promising Track Form. (From Our Own Correspondent.) GISBORNE, Saturday. Multiplied (Miultifid —Ladylike) met his death in a peculiar manner here a couple of weeks ago. It appears his owner left the feed-room open, and during his absence the horse got in and ate half a bag of oats and then had a drink, with the natural consequences, the son of Multifid dying within the hour. It was unfortunate for his owner, as the horse showed great promise, and only a week before an offer of £350 had been refused for him. Both Lord Ainslie and Faggot have recovered from their slight mishaps, and the pair are again in active work. Mistie, who broke down while competing here in October, and was turned out in consequence, has been brought in, and is now being hacked about, and after a couple of months will go into W. Olive’s stable to be

prepared tor the winter meetings. Bayswater (Marble Arch —Miss Lottie) has resumed work after a three months’ spell, during which time he was emasculated. He might yet prove a good advertisement for his sire, as he can gallop very fast, though on the small side. Master Timi and Faggot continue to do good work on the local tracks, and both should be hard to beat at Hastings this month, where the pair claim engagements. The same applies to Multifual, who is also in P. Malone’s stable at Makaraka. Lady Alicia proved costly to local punters here as the result of her failure on the opening day of the Avondale J.C.’s meeting. The success of Colonnade in the two-year-old race on the first day at Avondale was anticipated here, and her supporters were well rewarded for their confidence in her.

Tatimi is still being spelled, and will not be taken in hand until the tracks become a bit softer.

Judging by his track work, King of Athol will be very hard to beat in hack races he starts in at Hastings. On Saturday morning last he ran half a mile with about 9st. in the saddle in 49secs., and finished on the bit. I should not be surprised if this horse turns out one of the best sprinters in New Zealand next season.

Loreto is another that is bowling along well, and promises to be hard to beat in future events.

Rewonga and Raupani are just being pottered about, with nothing in view at present. Multikoff has lightened up a lot after his trip South, and does not appear one of the robust sort at present. Chortle has once more proved what a good horse he is over a mile by carrying 9st. 41b. and just getting touched off in the Thompson Handicap in lmin. 39 3-ssec. The winner, Ladoga, has a right to be labelled the best middle distance horse racing at present in New Zealand, judging by past performances.
