RED SIGNAL.

The crack Australian two-year-old, which cost his owners 650 guineas as a yearling, has already returned his purchase money several times over, and, says the “Referee,” C. Wheeler was very fortunate in the youngsters he bought for his patrons at last year’s sales. Red Signal already has three four-figure races, in the Maribynong Trial Stakes, Maribynong Plate, and V.R.C. Sires’ Produce Stakes, to his credit, further demonstrating that in Sydney or Melbourne it is possible to pick up a small fortune in stake money alone with a good two-year-old. Woorak, for instance, won five races and £6317 for his owner last season. Red Signal, who was bred by Messrs. John Thompson and Son, is by Linacre from Red Flag, by Lochiel from Prilous, by Clieveden from Peril (imp.), by Adventurer. A mare’s stud usefulness is often impaired by a lot of racing in a comparatively short period, but the fact of starting in 23 races as a five-year-old, and 36 as a six-year-old, when in W. Kelso s stable, seemingly did Red Flag but little harm. In addition to Red Signal she has thrown a useful .performer in the three-year-old filly Linnett (also by Linacre), who races at Sydney unregistered meetings.
