MB. FRANK MOORE’S IMPORTANT ACQUISITION —THAT GRAND HORSE HALLOWMAS, ■RECOGNISING that imported blood '*■*’ is in the ascendancy just now, FRANK MOORE has purchased in Australia, at a very high figure, the Imported Thoroughbred Horse HALLOWMAS—2O. This fine horse will be at the head of the Bushy Park Stud this coming Season. HALLOWMAS is a beautifully proportioned dark bay horse, foaled in 1908, standing about 15 hands 3 inches, on magnificent bone and feet, with splendid muscular development, and a bold head well set on. One has only to glance at his ancestry to see that he is bound to be a successful sire. His pedigree reads as follows:— By Martagon (sire of Martian, Magazan and Lilyveil), from Halloween (half sister to San Martina), by Ayrshire (sire of imported Traquair, Orzil, Ayr Laddie, etc.), from Santa Maura (half sister to Musa, dam of imported Mosqueton and Mirska), by St. Simon from Palm Flower (sister to Jenny Howlet, winner of The Oaks, and dam of Chittabob), by The Palmer, from Jenny Diver (granddam of St. Florian, sire of Ard Patrick), by Buccaneer from Fairy, by Warlock from Lelia (half sister to Lady Augusta, the dam of Volley), by Melbourne, from Meeanee (sister to Assault and third dam of Gozo — imp.), by Touchstone from Ghuznee (winner of The Oaks), by Pantaloon. Up to the present Martagon’s stock have won over £lOB,OOO in stakes, their winnings at last A.J.C. Autumn meeting alone amounting to £5864, heading winning sires for that gathering. HALLOWMAS’ sire, Martagon. was a good performer and most successful sire, among* his progeny being such winners as Champ de Mars £10,455, Wuffy £3709, Woolwinder £10,827, Cap Martin £3827, Magazan (imp.) £3526, Musa £4365, Jacquemart £5255, Buckwheat £4245, Mintagon, Paddington (imp.), Martian (imp.), Hallowmas (imp.), Marlow, etc. The highest-priced Yearling sold at the last Sydney sales —1900 guineas—was a colt by Ayr Laddie, who is by Ayrshire, sire of Hallowmas’ dam. HALLOWMAS is three-quarter brother to the great sire Magazan (imp.), who is now standing at the Allendale Stud in Australia at fifty guineas per mare. Magazan was bred in England, and went to America where he sired seven two-year-olds, winners of twentyone races, while during a year thirtytwo of his “gets” have won eightyfour races. One horse by him won a four-mile race in record time —7min 14 l-ssec. Successful winners by Magazan total over 100. Martagon (sire of Hallowmas and Magazan) is a brother in blood to Ormonde and Sceptre, and the No. 20 family to which Hallowmas belongs has produced the following classic winners.— Tagalie (Derby and 1000 Guineas), Julius (St. Leger), Doricles (St. Leger), Musa /Oaks) Jenny Howlet (Oaks), Lady Augusta (1000 Guineas) and Ghuznee (Oaks and 1000 Guineas). HALLOWMAS’ Bruce Lowe number is 20 which is the same as that of Traaucer, one of the greatest sires ever in this Dominion. Martian who has proved a great success at the stud, is the only other sire by Martagon now in New Zealand, among his progeny being those high-class racehorses Cherubini, Warstep, Danube and Soldiers Chorus. As a three-year-old in England, Hallowmas won Windsor Park Selhng Handicap (one mile), carrying 7.11, and ran third at Haydock Park in Willows Welter Handicap (one mile), under 8.5. He was then shipped to Austrafia, where he won the A.J.C. Squatters Handicap (1% . miles), and the Waverlev Handicap (1% miles), and ran second to Piastre in the. Melbourne Cup. Won A.J.C. Place Handicap (1% nnles), 8.10, and ran second to Piastre in A.J.C. Autumn Stakes, carrying 9.o—time, 2 min 3 5*4 sec, distance 1% miles. HALLOWMAS now ends his racing career, as sound as a bell, and without a blemish. After having sold him, his late owner, Mr. Merton, wished to keep him until after next Melbourne Cup and Epsom Handicap, and made a very substantial offer to be allowed to retain him for these races.

HALLOWMAS will take a few approved mares at a fee of Thirty Guineas each, and groomage fee 10s. 6d. each mare. Grazing free till Ist January.
