ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENTS.

SUBSCRIBER, Fitzroy, New Plymouth— We are not able to complete the list yet, but writing from memory we think that Artillery was sold privately, as also Strathmore. Hilda and Balista were kept for racing and breeding purposes. , Hazel was purchased by Mr. D. O’Brien. The following- is a list of the prices realised at auction for the lots named when they were yearlings:—Brown Alice 275 guineas, Moth 725 guineas Novellete 900 guineas, Chiara 95 guineas. Lady Cecilia 290 guineas, Lady Helen 500 guineas, Austral 310 guineas, Bobs 250 guineas, Sensation 360 guineas, total 3705 guineas. The average for the nine mentioned would thus be over 410 guineas. The other five would have improved the average greatly. Ouida was purchased by Mr. R. J. Matthews at the sale of the late Mr. Andrew Towns’ Hrbartville yearlings in New South Wales and imported to Taranaki, and subsequentIv sold to Mr. Thos. Morrin, of Wellington Park. Mr. Matthews has been breeding from Etu. one of the descendants of Ouida. Etu is by Lebel from Impart, who raced with success. Mr. Matthews recently sold a mare by Advance from Etu.
