The holiday crushes at the Exhibition brought all hands to the guns, and every official threw aside official dignity and tried to control the money-giving tide. The secretary, as was meet, received sovereigns from some men who had done so well at the totalisator that they never waited for change. The crowd surging up to leave the grounds by the exits became wrathful in patches. “I will get you the sack to-morrow, or my name’s not what it is,” one man angrily assured the urbane and courteous president, one of Auckland’s best-known and most charming business personalitres. “I wish you would get me the sack now,” the perspiring head of the Exhibition executive replied, as he wearily fought to keep order in the dense throng.

A financial statement has bteen issued which contains some interesting figures, but the president (Mr. G. Elliot) stated that liabilities aggregating perhaps £12,000, were not included in the scope of the statement. The total receipts since the initiation of the Exhibition project are shown at £45,800 7s, and the expenditure at £42,936 4s 6d. The balance (£2864 2s 6d) is at credit in the bank. It was resolved to pay the Auckland Gas Company £2OOO on account. The overdraft shown by the November statement was £13,239. The receipts include srace fees £14,234, gate receipts £’’0,366, season tickets £558 6, purchase ot executive interest in side-shows £0333 and £913. Royal Artillery Band £1469, building work undertaken for stallholders £239 2, contributions £636, commissions on sales £783, rights of official catalogues £678, rights of catering £750, fioral fete £571.
