THE TE KUITI MEETING.

The Te Kuiti Racing Club’s meeting, which takes place on February b.h, will engage the attention of owners and racegoers after the Takapuna Jockey Club’s summer meeting has teen decided. The handicaps appear in this issue, and chief interest will attach to the Te Kuiti Cup, for the reason that it carries with it the most money and is run over the longest distance of ground. The distance, a mile and a-quarter, is a popular one. At the first blush it would appear that Prince Merriwee (9.12), Jolie Fille (8.13), Royal Irish (8.11), and Tamainupo (8.6) are in their right places at the top of the list, but Tamainupo has the best of Jolie Fille on recent form, and Royal Irish has nothing to complain of on his three last meetings with that mare on figures and results. It would seem that .Spalfish has been treated as a non-stayer, with 7.6 to carry, and when his three victories at the Thames and his second in the County Handicap, beaten only a head by Glad ’Tidings, at Ellerslie, who he would have beaten in another stride or two, and remembering that, carrying 7.5, he had King Lupin (8.0) behind him :and, amongst others, Postillion (9.7), Gloy (6.13), Tinopai (6.9), and a lot of others, it will be strange if Gloy •can turn the tables on 131 b. worse p.nd Tinopai on 41b. worse terms.

Neither has performed so well this season. Soultikoff, at his best, should run well, and so would Admiral Soult if in the humour, but Spalfish reads the best in, in receipt of 2st. 61b. from Prince Aferriwee, Ist. 71b. from Jolie Fille and Ist. 51b. from Royal Irish. In the Rohe Potae Handicap, six furlongs, Spalfish is set to meet Prince Merriwee on 161 b. worse terms, Jolie Fille on 141 b., Royal Irish on 121 b., Admiral Soult on 151 b., Tinopai on 121 b., Salvia on 131 b., and Centenary on 141 b. Has Spalfish been dropped into his wrong place in the Cup? It looks uncommonly like it with these figures before us, for he cannot be considered overweighted in the Rohe Potae Stakes on his Thames and County Handicap form. Monoline has nothing to complain of in either of her engagements. The hurdle race should be interesting, with Cloudy Dawn, Doggerbank and Te Onga to fight their battle over again, to say nothing of others engaged. Te Onga is the one most likely to improve, and he is a better style of jumper than Cloudy Dawn and should stay better than Doggerbank. Our Te Kuiti friends should have a good meeting.
