TURF RESULTS.

MARLBOROUGH RACING CLUB’S AUTUMN MEETING. FIRST DAY. PERONEAL. WINS THE CUP. "Favourable conditions prevailed for the opening day of the Marlborough Racing- Club’s autumn meeting- on Wednesday. The course gave evidence of the protracted dry spell, but the going was fair. There was a large attendance. The totalisator put through £9122, against £7368 for the corresponding- day last year. Results:— MAIDEN HACK RACE of 60sovs. Six . furlongs. 3- J. H. Presser’s Parky, 4yrs, 8.6 (J. Conquest) 1 4- —-J. G. Armstrong’s Wailand, 8.7 (W. Gillett) 2 2—W. Watson’s Royal Sleeves, 3yrs, 8.6 (B. Deeley) 3 Also started: Haydn Park 8.11, Zain 8.11, Soporific 8.11, Hellenois 8.7, Fontongale 8.6. Wailand got away with a substantial lead, and had not been displaced when the straight was reached. Parky, fidden with good judgment, was brought up at the right moment, and won by half a length, the third horse a length away. Time, Imin 17sec. UGBROOKE WELTER HANDICAP of lOOsovs. Seven furlongs. 5- —F. Peter’s Moree, aged. 8.0 (E. W. Bell) 1 2 — G. Penfold’s Huia, 4yrs, 8.4 (A. Oliver) 2 3— T. Cameron’s Divorce. syrs, 8.13 (F. Holmes) 3 Also started: Curator 9.7, Beacon 9.0, Stepney 8.3, Kilcheran 8.1. Beacon showed the way round the back of the course, with Huia and Divorce in close attendance. Moree, who had kept unostentatiously in the centre of the field for the greater part of the distance, made an unexpected appearance in the straight, and ran clear away from the field, winning by three lengths, a length between second and third. The top weight was first out, but later on was supplanted by Aratiatia. In the straight an exciting struggle ensued, the favourite gaining a victory by a head, the third horse several lengths away.
