Mall dam of Marble Arch, was got bv Ladas (winner of 2000 Guineas, Derby, Middle Park Plate, Newmarket Stakes, etc,), from Serpentine, by the Simon horse St. Serf, from Footlight of Flair, 1000 Guineas, and half-sister to Illuminata dam of Ladas, Gas, Chelandry), by Cremorne (Derby, Ascot, and Good wood Cup), from Paraffin (three-quarter sister to Lord Lyon, 2000 Guineas, St. Leger, and to Chevisaunce, dam of Janette (Oaks and St. Leger), bv Blair Athol (Derby and St. Leger). from Paradigm (half-sister to Rouge Rose, dam of Bend Or (Derby, and sire of Ormonde, 2000 Guineas, Derby, and St. Leger). In MARBLE ARCH’S pedigree there are no less than six Derby, five 2000 Guineas, and eight St. Leger winners, besides winners of the Jockey Club Stakes, 10,000sovs: Princess of Wales’s Stakes 10,000sovs; and the principal big races in England. SIMON) from MERRY NIF (imp.), by Merry Hampton (son of Hampton) from Aroma, by Craig Millar (son of Blair Athol). . GENERAL LATOUR proved himself one of the fastest and gamest colts that has graced the New Zealand Turf. At the A.R.C. Spring Meeting he won the Great Northern Guineas. At the A.R.C. Summer Meeting he won the Christmas Handicap in record time (lmin 40sec), conceding weight to aged horses. In the Great Northern Derby he made most of the running, and was only beaten a length by Counterfeit (who is regarded as the best filly in New Zealand) in the record time of 2min 36sec. In the decision of the A.R.C. Easter Handicap he carried 5.6 into second place behind Kakama (7.6), the mile being cut out in lmin 40sec, and General Latour was only a head from the winner. Breeders will notice by General Latour’s pedigree that he lias a tip-top strain of racing- blood, and will be a worthy successor to his illustrious sire SOULT, the greatest sire ever imported to the colonies. ELYSIAN won over £3OOO in stakes, and proved himself the best w.f.a. horse of the season, and one of the greatest three-year-olds ever raced in Aew Zealand. This horse comes of the same cross of blood as Pietermaritzburg (-), last year’s champion sire of the world, and also Treadmill (2), a proved New Zealand success, clearly denoting ms assured success as a sire.
