TURF RESULTS.

SOUTH AUCKLAND RACING CLUB, GOOD SPORT—BIG DIVIDEND'S. ST. AMANS WIN'S THE CUP. The weather for the opening- day of the South Auckland Rating Club’s autumn meeting was showery, but the attendance was good, and some excellent racing was witnessed. On the second day the climatic conditions were better, and as a consequence large crowds gathered at Claudelands to see the concluding day’s sport, which was distinctly interesting. Some improvements have been made to the course since last year, but still it falls very far short of what it should be. The track is rough and has one bad turn, while the appointments are certainly not worthy of a first-class country club. The stewards will be well advised to formulate a comprehensive scheme for the improvement of their’ course, or they will be in danger of having some harsh words said of the chib, which should strive to represent the progressive spirit of the Waikato. The officials of the club could also afford to regard pressmen as worthy of consideration, if not courtesy. Mr. Robert Wynyard (handicapper) was particularly successful with most of his adjustments. and as a consequence some excellent finishes were witnessed. Mr. J. Jackman,’ also is worthy of praise for the successful working of the starting barrier. Almost without exception he got his fields away on equal terms. The secretary (Mr. W. I. Conradi) worked hard and is entitled to the credit of a successful meeting. The totalisator returns for the two days amounted to £13,967 10s, as compared with £7605 last year .
