TROTTING.

The Wanganui Trotting Club has (writes our own correspondent) fixed the dates of its annual meeting for Easter Saturday and Easter Monday. It is rjather unfortunate that the latter date will clash with Feilding, always a very popular gathering with racegoers on this

coast, but trotting to be coming into favour about here, so that the club may be favoured with a large attendance. The programme is a vxell-tarranged one, and the stake money offered sufficiently liberal to be worthy the attention of owners and trainers of trotters. Providing the meeting is a success financially the club will increase the prizemoney considerably for next season.

Dillon Bell, who won the Dunedin Trotting Cup, of 500 sovs. fat Forbury Park last week, registered a very creditable time. He covered the two miles in 4min 35sec, and was easing up at the end.

The South Island Owners’, Trainers’ and Breeders’ Association has circulated the following letter among trotting enthusiasts in Canterbury and Otago:—l am instructed by my committee to approach you with reference to becoming a member of the above association. My committee intend to do all in their power to improve the breed, and to look after the interests of the light-harness horse. It is their intention also to go into the question of having fa Government tax imposed on all stallions unable to obtain a Government veterinary surgeon’s certificate, to further deal with the question of class racing, the method of handicapping, and the mode of starting as conducted at our various race meetings. My committee would ask your support as a member in dealing with these and other questions affecting the sport in general.—l fam, etc., J. H. Tompkins, hon. secretary.
