POVERTY BAY TURF CLUB'S MEETING.

FIRST DAY. The annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Turf Club commenced on Thursday in fine, but dull, weather. The sum of £7117 was put through the totalisator, as against £5BOO on the first day of last year. Results were as follow:— WELTER HANDICAP, one mile.—The Squatter, 8.12, 1; Illustrious, 9.3, 2; Erin, 9.9, 3. Also started: Rose Lethe, Game, Water-o’-Milk. Won by two lengths. Time, lmin 46sec. HURDLE RACE, one mile and threequarters.—Whakaweira, 10.8, 1; Continuance, 12.9, 2; Te Arai, 11.13, 3. Also started: Haurangi. Won by six lengths. Time, 3min 18 4-ssec. COUNTY STAKES, six furlongs.—'Fort William, 9.0, 1; Manupai, 7.13, 2; Elya, 8.6, 3. Also started: Scorch, Kilsyth, Rising Sun, First Marshal, The Chief, Omatere. Won by a neck. Time, 2min 9sec. TELEPHONE HANDICAP, five furlongs.—Scorch, 8.6, 1; Pluck, 7.7, 2; Miss Sylvia, 8.6, 3. Also started: Baldos, Josie, Ngarui. Won by a neck. Time, lmin ssec. HACK HANDICAP, one mile.—Obscurity, 7.13, 1; Ardfert, 7.13, 2; Monsieur Soult, 7.3, 3. Also started: Swarthmoor, Raupare, Master Stead, Water-o’-Milk. Won all the way. Time, lmin 45sec. FLYING HANDICAP, seven furlongs. —Lord Possible, 8.10, 1; Auldearn, 7.9, 2. The only starters. Won in hollow fashion. Time, lmin 18sec. SECOND DAY. The meeting was concluded in dull •weather. The- going was good and the racing interesting. The sum of £8456 was put through the machine, making a total for the two days of £15,574, as against £11,328 last year. Results were as follow:— .■STEWARDS’ HANDICAP, seven furlongs.—lney, 8.12, 1; 'Lord Possible, 9.5, 2. The only starters. Won easily. Time, 2min 50 HACK HANDICAP, seven furlongs.— Ardfert, 8.5, 1; Miss Sylvia, 8.13, 2; Monsieur Soult, 7.10, 3. Also started: Kilsyth, Durability, Vaultress, Cork, Water-o’-Milk, Rising Sun. Won by two lengths. Time, lmin 31% sec. SUNDERLAND STAKES, one mile.— Fort William, 7.12, 1; Dazzling, 9.10, 2; Voetgang, 7.1, 3. Also started: Paisano 9.8, Manupai 7.3. Fort William shot to the front and led all the way, winning by six lengths. Dazzling was a neck in front of Voetgang. Time, lmin 43 l-ssec.
