to breeders to pay more attention to the light harness horse. A few years ago perhaps not more than a dozen horses bred in Auckland would be found on the race cards, most of the animals being bred in the South. But time has altered this state of affairs, and a glance at the present day’s programme shows that horses bred in the Auckland district figure largely in the list. The acceptances received for Wednesday’s programme are well up to the average, ana there appears every reason to expect an enjoyable day’s racing. The arrangements for the gathering are well in hand, and with the secretary, Mr. F. D. Yonge, at the head of affairs, comfort for patrons can be guaranteed. The programme of events will commence with the Trial Trot, in which a number of unknown qua’ity will be found. Ferncliffe, on the limit, is a promising sort, but this is an event that backers will probably leave alone till they get a lead. In the Trotting Handicap Viscount is asked to give away 23 seconds in a mile and a-half, but the opposition is very we'k and it would not be surprising if he were sent out favourite. Diamond Bell has 16 seconds, and he should be one of the fancied ones. In the Tramway Handicap Norway is not overburdened with weight, and the chestnut may be favourite, while the top-weight, Mistime, is also bound to have friends.

The principal event, the Suburban Handicap, finds Sweet Patch on the mark, but this fine looking horse does not stay too well, and the last bit of a two miles’ journey may be too much for him. John Harold appears to be right at his best at present, and this being so he may go out favourite, with Stranger next choiceEight, fairly fast horses are engaged in the Onehunga Handicap and as the contest looks open some difficulty may be experienced in selecting a favourite. Floranz and Belle Gray are a pair who should have strong support. John Plarold is well treated, but he mw not be a starter

Ten are engaged in the Mangere Handicap, all of whom look like going to the post. Lord Specialist has only started once and on that occasion he won a maiden very easily. Annoyed and Hamapuku can both muster up pace.

Tn the Stewards’ Handicap Hamapuku may be favourite, but B’ack Diamond is certain to be well supported. Viscount may beat the backmarkers. but there are some fair horses well out in front.

Nine figure in the Electric Handicap, including that good little mare Phyllistina, who may go out favourite. Goldwood has not fulfilled expectations. but may do better later on. The following are the acceptances for the various events: —
