CYCLING AND MOTOR NOTES.
ONEHUNGA CYCLE TOURING CLUB. The annual meeting ot the Onehunga Cycle Touring Club was held in the Fire Brigade Hall on Friday evening, when Mr. R. Sutherland presided over a good mustei’ of members and intending members. The secretary submitted the annual report of the committee, and the balance-sheet showed that ,the receipts were £34 13s, and the expenditure £3O 10s 3d, leaving a gain of £4 2s 9d on the year’s operations. The club has a credit balance of £ll Is 9d, m addition to the amount cii deposit for the formation of the track. ’There are no liabilities on'"ide of track formation. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Ml. A. LI. Myers, M.P., (re-elected) ; president, xMr. A. Weekes; vice-presidents, Messrs. C. A. Osborne, F. W. Lang, M.P., C. Baker, sen.. H. Reynolds, D. Muir, T. H. Pardington, T. Foley, W. J. Brewin, C. Davis, G. Simpson, G. Slator; captain, J. Richardson; vice-captain, N. Wadman; secretary and treasurer, S. H. ißrooking (re-elected); R. Sutherland, H. Christini (re-elect-ed), O. Casey and R. Hamblin. It was decided that an athletic meeting (with Fire Brigade events) bo held at a date to be arranged at the new track on the Recreation Ground, and the following were elected to act as sports committee, in conjunction with the Club Committee: — Messrs. T. Gilbert, Leo Sutherland, H. Davis, T. George, L. Pascoe, W. C. Hill, J. Devon, W. James, J. Harris and H. Campling, with power to elect three more. During the evening the president on behalf of the members of the club, presented the popular secretary (Air S. H. Brooking) with a silver loving cup to celebrate the birth of his son. Mr. Brooking suitably responded.
Word to hand from America states that the Australian champion sprinter, A. J. Clark, was married at Salt Lake City on August 31st. Floyd MacFarland was best man. It is said that Clark, who has raced so successfully during the last few years, under the management of MacFarland, will have to find another partner after this month. According to reports, MacFarland will team with Major Taylor. E. A. Pye was ridingwell when the mail left, he defeating MacFarland in two pursuit races in
record time, viz., 2 miles in 4min. 3-5 sec., and 3 miles in 6 min. 9 1-5 secs. The last named rider is about to quit the racing arena, having signed on to manage several leading racing tracks. The famous 24-Hodrs’ French Track Race, the Bel D’Or, was recently held in Paris, and, as usual, resulted in a great contest between the European long distance champions. The event was won by the French crack, L- Georget. who won with a total ot 573 miles 1185 yards. Shirley, a well-known English rider, finished fourth; tandem pacing was permitted. It was in this race that A. E. Walters (England), 'with the assistance of motor pace, established his wondermi 24-hours’ record of 634 miles 7 7 4 yards, just ten years ago.
