Mr. Archibald Wallace, Custom St. announces by advertisement in this issue that he has received instructions to sell the well-known trotting stallion, Specialist, who is one of the best horses seen out in Auckland, and who held the mile race record in Auckland, up till the last Autumn meeting of the Auckland Trotting Club when it was lowered by V-S. His stock show great promise and two of his sons, Lord Specialist and St. Michael, the only ones yet raced, are both winners. Full particulars can be obtained from Mr. Wallace.

Those who considered California a great horse were quite right in their estimation of the capabilities of the chestnut son of San Fram—Dazzle. On the opening day at Wellington he was baaly left and finished fourth. The second day saw him win the Waterloo Handicap, with 11.2 in the saddle, but he went better still on the concluding day when despite the fact that he was slow to move he cantered home in front of the opposition in the Winter Oats, one mile, in which he carried 11.13. The performances of California at Trentham are certainly brilliant.
