(From Our Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 24. D. Roberts’ team was in great form at Oamaru to-day. Tikitere won the principal handicap, Shindy fan a dead heat in her race, while Fisticuff ran second in the Welter. Armamento was well backed in Christchurch for the Welter Handicap at Oamaru to-day, but he could only get third to Waiju and Fisticuff. Silkweb was sent along as the best of good things for the Oamaru Cup to-day, but he had to be content with third place, Tiki cere and My Lawyer finishing first and second. Jack Pot and Wimmera were strongly fancied for the double—Wanganui Steeplechase and Century Hurdles—and quite a number of Christchurch backers were successful in securing the double. Riccarton stables will be strongly in evidence at both the Oamaru and Dunedin meetings, and as a result the tracks are somewhat desertedLeonardo has gone lame, and will not be persevered with this winter.

Federal has been suffering from a bad attack of strangles, and it will be some time before he is well enough to race.

Eurus, with J. Nolan in the saddle, was given his first schooling task this season last week. He commenced at the double, and was sent at hunting pace twice round the steeplechase course. He fenced well throughout and is looking in good trim to undergo his preparation for the Grand National Steeplechase.

Northern Star is again among the active brigade, and, all going well, will journey North for some of the winter meetings. The stallion San Francisco arrived from Australia last week, and iwas at once taken to Sir George Clifford’s Stoneyhurst stud.

Glenculloch is in the private sale list- Such a good performer and handsome horse should soon find a purchaser. He is for sale for stud purposes.

The owner of Zetland has decided to retire the son of Obligado—Lady Zetland from the turf owing, it is said, to the harsh treatment by the handicappers. Zetland has always struck me as being a greatly over-rated horse, and has probably been among the unfortunates who do not seem able to escape the handicappers’ eye. The Seer, Master Leslie and Frivollite have been retired from active work for the winter-

T. Cotton is giving Harvest, who has not raced for a long time, and Sant Rosaleer plenty of strong work in view of early engagements. Antony, Ratepayer, and Sea Dog have been schooled over the steeplechase country twice during the past week. The first-named jumped badly and eventually ran off at the first attempt, 'but afterwards fenced fairly well. Both Antony and Sea Dog gave satisfactory displaysTerrapin, by Clanranald—Teredina, is for sale for stud purposes. Mr. J. Chadwick has been re-ap-pointed handicapper to the Geraldine Racing Club. There was a lot of money in Christchurch for Truganini in the Empire Handicap at Takapuna on Saturday last.

The well-known Riccarton lightweight jockey, C. Emmerson, has been retained to do light-weight riding for the Chokebore stable next season.
