SECOND DAY.
APELLON WINS THE CHAMPAGNE STAKES. | ECHO PAYS A SENSATIONAL DIVIDEND. WEATHER CONDITIONS UNFAVOURABLE. The meeting was continued on Monday, which, of course, was a general holiday, and the attendance was much larger than on' Saturday, but still behind former years. Just, after the racing commenced rain began to fall, continuing throughout the whole of the afternoon, making, matters most unpleasant for those present at the gathering. The racing again proved interesting, and passed off without a hitch, and but for the rain the outing would have been most enjoyable. The various officials carried out their respective duties with credit, leaving no robin for complaint. Betting was again - slow, the sum handled at the machines being £12,992, compared with £15,705, on Easter Monday last year. Thirtyeight bookmakers were licensed at £2O 10s each.
