CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB’S AUTUMN MEETING.

PENATES WINS THE GREAT EASTER HANDICAP. The conditions for the opening of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s autumn meeting were distinctly unfavourable. Heavy rain fell overnight, and there was a thick drizzle all the morning and the early part of the afternoon. The weather then cleared, but the attendance was naturally affected. The going was heavy, and this upset the calculations of backers in some cases. One or t . wo events were easily won, but the racing generally was interesting. ator investments amounted to £19,37V, as against £17,853 last year. OUTLANDER WINS THE GREAT AUTUMN HANDICAP The Canterbury Jockey Club’s Autumn Meeting was concluded under more favourable weather conditions than, those of Monday. A fresh breeze helped to dry the course, and the greater part of the afternoon was bright and sunny. The attendance was very good and the racing was extremely interesting. The totahsator investments amounted to £12,180, as against £13,785 for the corresponding day last year. Nine bookmakers were licensed inside at £2O 10s each and 29 outside at £lO 10s each.
