NORTH SHORE ROWING CLUB.

The North Shore Rowing Club held an “ At Home” on Saturday, when trial fours were rowed for Mr. A. Kohn’s trophies. Though a rough sea was running, some really good racing was witnessed, the finishes being very keen. The function was well attended. the club’s lawn presenting a fine sight while Marriage’s string band rendered a number of pleasing items. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies’ committee, and nothing was left undone in the way of adding to the enjoyment of those present. The racing resulted as follows: — First heat: Bailey s crew defeated Logan’s crew by a canvas. Second heat: F. Bennett’s crew beat G. Seager’s crew by a foot. Third heat: A. Patterson’s crew won from fours stroked by E. Gilmore and R. Spinley. First heat: Bailey’s crew 1, Bennett’s crew 2, Patterson’s crew 3. Won by three-quarters of a length. The winning crew consisted of E. Bailey (stroke), M. Harrison, A. Powley, J. Blakey and F. Lacy (cox). Mr. W.' J. Strick acted as starter, and Mr. J. C. Spinley as judge, both gentlemen getting through all that was required of them with credit.

Derbyshire first entered the list of champions in 1897, by gaining a sensational victory over his club mate, J. H. Tyers. He won the 100 yards on six occasions, the 220 yards championship four times, and the half mile championship once. He held the 150 yards Northern Championship for thirteen successive years, and was the first English swimmer to break the minute for 100 yards at the Cheetham Hill baths, Manchester.
