THE MANAWATU MEETING.

The. inaugural meeting of the newly formed Manawatu Athletic Club was held last week in beautiful weather, and was a distinct success, many of the competitors at the New Zealand championships being present, including the Wellington contingent in strong force. McDonald, of Dannevirke, with a 60 yards start, won the half mile from the scratch man Harding, in 1.59 3-5, The hundred yards was won by Milne, of Palmerston (12 yards) who defeated Woodger (scratch) by 2 yards in 9 4-5., Woodger’s time being 10sec. dead. Kerr (scratch), of Wellington, won the mile walk in 6.42 3-5. McKay, of Wellington, won the high jump. Beatson, of Otago, won the mile run in Milne also defeated Woodger in the 220 yards handicap. The long jump was won by Hubbard, of Wellington. Dales, of Palmerston North, won the quarter mile, and the Wellington team won the relay race.
