WANGANUI.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, November 2. The Merriwee gelding Cauldron is evidently to be given a chance shortly to distinguish himself over the little sticks, as he was sent for a spin over hurdles the other morning, and acquitted himself very well for a beginner. He is just the cut of a gelding to make a top-notcher over the obstacles. Regulation is jumping particularly well now, and if started in the. hurdles at Waverley next Tuesday should perform in something like her old form, which means that she will take a power of beating. Wanganui will not be very strongly represented numerically at the New Zealand Cup Meeting, but a couple of horses from here which • will-compete in the big event are likely to run prominently, viz., Roosevelt and Lady Lucy, both of which have been doing good work since arriving at Riccarton. Of the pair Lady Lucy is the one most likely to score and the daughter of Seaton L'elaval —Hilda will carry a deal of Wanganui coin, as will also North East in the Steward’s Handicap. The Euroclydon gelding is galloping in very attractive style, according to advice received uere, and if he goes on all right till Saturday next is sure to cut out a fast six purlongs if he gets a decent passage. In addition to Regulation and Compass, Percy Coffey is training a big horse by St. Clements, which is likely to make a name for himself, as he is already showing a lot of pace, and should improve a great deal yet. Though a big upstanding horse he moves very freely and hopes are entertained that he will turn out a good one.

A friend who was in Waverley the other day, informs the writer that Koran is galloping in a style which suggests that Mr. J. F. Moore’s castoff should win a race before long. The son of Pilgrim’s Progress has so far failed to perform up to expectations, but appears to be improving' with age, that is if track form can be taken as a guide. F. Coleman has been engaged to ride Sir Prize in the New Zealand Cup, in which event such a genuine stayer as the Wanganui Cup winner, must be held to have a good chance. Belario and Irish Rifle, have been doing some solid work lately on the off chance of the pair being required to make the trip to Riccarton, but the owner does not appear to have . made up his mind yet as to whether they are to fulfil their engagements at the Cup meeting or not. Jimmy Peachy has both geldings in pretty good nick.
