TO POCKET ALL THE BALLS IN THREE SHOTS.

TRICK SHOT. Place a ball on the pyramid spot, and another on the middle spot of the D, and the third on the middle spot of the table. The spoof is, to stand up against the middle pocket and say you will back yourself to put a ball into three different pockets (without moving from the position you are standing in, and take care to hold the cue in the usual manner when about to play)—one in each pocket of the table the same side as you are standing. When all is ready —play the ball opposite you into the pocket you are standing up against—but use the butt-end of the cue for the backward stroke. Then lay the cue on the table, straight between the middle pockets, with the tip towards yourself, hold the tip steady with one hand and see that the tip is facing in an exact line towards the middle pocket you are standing over, and with the other catch hold of the cue half-way down, and sweep it along the cloth at a moderate pace on to first one and then the other of the balls on the spots, and they should go into an end pocket.

Mack, in their match of 18,000 up, and after giving him a start of 6,000 points left him 2,342 behind in the finish. The veteran is now engaged in giving 3,000 in a similar long game to A. E. Williams, also of Manchester, and so far as the game has progressed looks like winning comfortably.
