NAPIER PARK RACING CLUB’S WINTER MEETING.

FIRST DAY. The Napier Park Racing Club opened their winter meeting on Wednesday in fine weather and before a large attendance. Most of the events proved easy things for the winners, and, with the exception of the last race, in which 12 horses started, the fields were small. The Investments on the totalisator amounted to £5389, as compared with £6343 on the first day of the last winter meeting—a decrease of £954. Thirteen bookmakers were on the ground—seven in the outside enclosure at £lO each and six inside at £2O 10s each, making a total revenue to the club from that source •of —£l97. Donzel was in command when the straight was reached for the first time, but at the second hurdle jumped the fence separating the course from the inner track and came down heavily. Chicane came to grief at the same obstacle. Somali afterwards fell, leaving Forest in the lead, and he was not afterwards troubled by his only remaining compair'on. winning in a canter by about four lengths. Time, 3m. 27 4-ss. Passing the stand the first time Lingerer was still showing the way, and he kept in the van till the finish, winning easily by a good six lengths. The second day of the Napier Park Racing Club’s winter meeting was held on Thursday in cold and cloudy weather, but no rain fell, so the day’s sport was not materially affected. The attendance was not so good as on the previous day, but speculation was a little brisker. Most of the events proved easy things for the winners, the only close contest being in the final event. The totalisator investments amounted to £5809, making £11,198 for the two days, as compared with £12,609 for the winter meeting last year. Nine bookmakers were licensed.
