ROYAL ALBERT HALL.
PATHE PICTURES. The Pathe Pictures at the Royal Albert Hall continue to draw splendid audiences, and are evidently in great favour with those who patronise this
form of entertainment. The chief attraction last week was the beauty competition, in which more than the usual amount of interest was evinced. The voting proved that opinions differed largely as to who should be awarded the coveted first prize, but the ultimate count was in favour if Miss Bessie Foy, a member of Pollard’s Opera Company. This week’s programme is in the very first light, and the management have provided the patrons of the Royal Albert this week with a treat in the form of a picture specially taken in Sydney for the Messrs. Hayward, entitled “ Empire Day Celebrations.” Those who patronise the living pictures should on no account miss the opportunity of seeing how Empire Day is celebrated on the other side of the Tasman by 9000 children. Four dramatic films are presented, “A Woman’s Way.” “ Test of Friendship,” “ Baby’s Playmate,’’ and “ A Ruffians’ Public-house.” All are well received, and conspicuous by the absence of “ flicker.” The humorous films are very funny, being entitled “He Would Dance,” “A Harmless Bullfight,” “ Volcanic Chimneys” and “ Painless Dentistry.” Great interest was shown in “The Sport of Hawking,” and one gains an insight into the manner in which the birds are captured. “ Native Life in North Borneo” is also a splendid film, and the whole entertainment from beginning to end is interesting, besides being instructive.
