NORTH SHORE ROWING CLUB.
The North Shore Rowing Culb celebrated the close of the season on Saturday afternoon, by holding their final “At Home” and trial fours. The prizes were the challenge cup presented by three old rowers (Messrs.
W. Swinnerton, W. L. Cossar and G. Orpwood). and Mr. H. J. Schmidt’s trophies. A strong westerly wind caused a swell, and several sharp showers of rain fell during the afternoon. The course was No. 3 at Cheltenham Beach, starting at Vauxhall end, and finishing under North Head. Mr W. J. Napier (president) acted as judge, and Mr. E/E. Maddan starter. In the opening heat H- Grubb’s
crew won by three quarters of a .’ength after a most exciting contest. The second heat went to T. Davis’ four who easily defeated A. Patterson’s crew by two lengths. In the third heat S. Marshall’s four beat A. Patterson’s by a length and a half. The final was then contested by the following crews: —Ngaro No. 1 : S. Marshall, F. Bennett, L. Fraser, EBongard, A. McAneny (cox.). Waihoe No. 2: H. Grubb. W. Wynyard. S. Dye, A. Powley. E. Grey (cox.)Ngeri No. 3: T. Davis, L. Hunt, S. Lunsford, R. Basley, S. Bongard (cox.) . Grubb's crew were quickly out in front and were closely attended by Marshall and Davis’ crews. In an ex-
citing finish Davis’ four won by a foot from Marshall’s four who were two feet in front of Grubb’s crew.
